Push button fuel door release
I installed a push button fuel door release (Part No. 53842-00B) on my 2008 Ultra. It came with a spring but my bike doesn't have the screw to attach the spring to (as shown in the directions). It still works but it is a little difficult to open the door. Has anyone else installed this accessory?Any ideas on how to get the door to pop open?

It is suppose to come with a spring which is only a v shaped spring. If it was not in the package return it to the dealer for a replacement. There is no other way to make it pop up. remove the rubber cover and see if the screw is under it.

I had and tried the same thing, a takeoff from my 05, it did not want to work on the 08 as there is no way to mount the spring and there is not enough spring in the 08 door to lift cover by itself. I sold it and will wait for the newer version???

Is this kit an electric thing so it only works when the bike is powered on? Does it replace the key? Not sure why you wouldn't want to secure your gas cap otherwise, with the number knuckleheads running around messing with things.

The 53919-04 smooth button fuel door release can be easily adapted.

Im sorry, i dont have one in front of me so im at a loss as to what recess you mean. I know that on the button assy there is a plastic triangle that moves with the button, this catches somewhere on the console opening. Is this the area you ground??If i understand even a little, you relieved the tension (clearance) to ease triangle catching console???
