Ditto on the aluminum trailers. I own a Triton 6X12 and swear by it. http://www.tritontrailers.com/models1.asp?ModelID=67My wife can attach it to the truck by herself. Very lightweight and easy to move around. I installed 2 quick-realease pingel chocks and bought the tie down points that mount inside the trailer channels. I think we paid about $2500 all together, but I don't remember. The wife got it when I was deployed last year.
Trailers are expensive. You can get something nice in a close in for 3500 or used 2500. My wife keeps bugging me to get one, not sure if I would get my use out of it. Better off buying used or get someone to go halves with me.
I tried for some time to find a nice used enclose trailer - If I wanted Big, I could have found some good deals... I know the deals are out there but being in the right spot at the right time just did not work for me... I contacted Big Tex in Southern Ca and got a Great deal on a Wells Cargo "Road Force" I went 5X8 ramp/sidedoor/V-nose/ and extra 6" taller. this will work great for my RG and have just enough room to store our gear. At first I was looking at a 6X10 but that is bigger than I needed and also cost more to pull due to the weight... My trailer is right at 1000# empty... I also went with this.. http://www.robertsprod.com/ I have talked to several people that have used this for over a year and they love it - both started by using saftey straps - after about 6 months they just use the device - both are custome bike builders and trailer Alot..
I have a 5 X 8 enclosed Interstate motorcyle trailor. I put my heritage in it one time. the rest of the time I use it for hauling camping gear. My wife has a Xterra, I have a TDI Jetta for snowy days, but it is very light i mouve it up hill by myself.
Where do you guys that have aStreet Glidehook the straps to the bike? I just loaded mine to take to the shop tommorrow and was extremely difficult to strap. Thanks in advance
rsofa, sorry about "the in reply". I cut and pasted your question and added some more.
What I did today was I wrapped thenylonstaps (the things that have a loop at both ends) around the frame and the crash bar (1 on each side) and used ratchet straps to attach it to the D rings in the floor. I also strapped the rear on both sides using the above describe configuration but attached it to the stems of the passenger foot pegs. I use a Condor Chock for the front wheel. It works well but after seeing the Robertsprod. I may be buying 1 of them. That look pretty stable. My biggest fear is my 08 FLHX falling over inthe trailer.
Where do you guys that have an Ultra hook the straps to the bike????
Stay off the handlebars, you are only asking for trouble there. I don't compress the front shocks, I let it ride its own suspension. I drain the air from the rear shocks, place a wooden block(s) under the cross brace and gently snug the bike down onto the block(s) with ratchet straps attached to the passenger footboard brackets. All strap pressure is pulling forward and down into my wheel chock.
