Looking to put a back rest on a 08 Ultra Classic Anniv. edition. I had an 07 EGC (son owns it now) and used the Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide Rider Backrest Kit - 52695-04. The 08 Ultra seat is designed a little different then the 07 comfort stitch and I am not sure that the SE back rest will work like it did on the 07 EGC.
Evidently they are different. I got the old one (pre-'08) at the dealer, but they found it didn't fit and had to order the correct one. Unfortunately, it is backordered. Glad I ordered it now so that eventually when I really want to use it for longer rides it will finally get here.
Do you know what part number they ordered? I am looking for the adjustable rider backrest for an '08 Ultra and they tell me the earlier models won't fit the '08s.
I had the 52622-03a on my 07 EGC first but it didn't give the passenger enough room - the Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide Rider Backrest Kit was thinner and gave the passenger more leg room. Will wait to see what is made for the 08's.
I too installed the 52622-03 adjustable back rest on my 08, used it on a 5K excursion and was glad I had it on. it is much better than the non adjustable I had on the last bike. I installed it myself and seems like there was a small issue with the mounting of the adjustment lever - like it was difficult toget nuts on the back of the bolts the way the frame is made - I ended up not using the mounting hardware that came with the kit and used a nut/bolt out of my stash. I ended up fishing the bolt though the frame plate and the nut is behind the adjustment lever. A change to the kit for an 08 would probably be to include a large self tapping screw to ease the installation of the 08's.
I have the 52622-03a on my '08 Ultra also. I ha dit on my '07 Ultra. The only difference I noticed is that it was a little more difficult to mount the control lever bracket to the frame because of a design difference in the '08 frame.
