My (Calif) '07 (stock) Roadglide pings purty bad ridin 2 up when pullin grades above about 7000 feet in elevation. Anybody know if the dealers are addressing this problem with maybe an updated flash that might modify the ign timing?
My 07 did it around 7K also. Did not work well for me as I ride 6 to 10K elevation and back regularly. Dealer could not tune it out. I finally went stage1 and have no more issues with pinging.
I tried all different fuel brands with no effect. This "pinging" occured only when traversing the Rockies coming and going to Sturgis. I bought some octane booster and added a little with each fill up, which "minimized" the ping but didn't make it go away entirely. I've ordered a K&N high flow air cleaner and the Vance and Hines Fuelpak to complete my stage one but I got the following reply from Fuel Pak Technical Support:
"The fuelpak will most likely not eliminate the pinging under a load. Pinging is a real issue with the 2007 models and can only be fixed with 02 eliminators and timing adjustments which the fuelpak isnšt capable of."
I'm just wonderin if anyone's heard if Harley has a timing adjustment fix for the ping short of aftermarket mods ?
Depending on the date of manufacturing, there was a dealer download to help with pinging. Applied to the early 07s, but I am not sure if it works for CA models.
edit - it applies to those before 11/1/06. Do a search on here for the "07 recall" and you'll find a lot of info on it. Still don't know if it applies to you though.
As you suspect...there is something really wrong here.... Yourmotor should ping less at higher elevations... Predetonation with 91 octane fuel at 7000, isreason to camp on the HD dealers doorstep....
