Unclekuncle, I read that HD's stock ECM program actually further retards the ignition timing when the bike is running at high elevation. You might want to consider a PCIII.

General comment, thinner air makes for richer fuel to airmixtures. Richer mixtures usually means less chance for ping. I did not know there was anybarometric pressure sensors on HD's that might control spark timing. Just some comments, no expert at my house.

Lay off the cheese burgers, fries and shakes and leave the old lady at home or install a stage I kit. Either solution should work.

It's my understanding that the Delphi EFI system used on the HD twin cam engines has a barometric pressure adjustment based on the perceived altitude that the ECM thinks the bike is operating at. The ECM assumes that fewer air molecules (less dense air) will be flowing into the intake at high altitudes and makes an adjustment to further retard the engine timing. I have heard stories of guys having so little horsepower at high altitude on a stock TC96 that the bike will hardly make it up a 7-8% grade.

It's LEAN [:@], if you can't get dealer to resolve [&:], buy a Power Commander , if you are not planning any other mods. That way you will be able to richen it up to run better. If you are planning mods buy the S.E. Race Tuner and get it dialed in on the dyno.

My 07 FLHT pinged all the time and the dealer said only way they could fix it was with a SERT . the day I took it in they said I was in luck as the "factory guy" was there and he downloaded something for free. Now my bike runs great and I can't make it ping. Dealer is Sierra Vista, Az.

Had no problem with my 07 going up to 9000' bone stock.
Now have PC111 and have been higher with no issues.

At what RPM does the pinging start?
I was generally traveling the posted limit of 75... 6th gear when possible, 5th when practical. We were carryin the weight of me and the wife, proly 385 lbs plus 20-30 lbs of gear. The pingin would become noticeable on up grades ... where I'd get outta the throttle a wi bit ... sometimes requiring even a lower gear so asto be able to roll off the throttle even more to keep pinging at bay ... The octane booster additive seemed to minimize the detination but while at higher upgrades, it was still faintly evident.
