Riding in California, San Diego......traffic was moving at about 5mph and according to the law, I decicded to split lanes -- I don't move at 40mph like the young kids do...-- but moving at about 15 mph...spliting the 1/2 lanes... I was moving at about 15 mph . I see this gal look at me --- you all know what I say -- and she pulled her wheel right so I could not pass...She was on my front wheel. So natural reaction, I moved right and hit a trailer .....went from 15mph to 0 in an instant! The others went on.....my face hit the windshield,,,,blood all over the place...I was dazed for about 10 seconds...stoppped between the 1/2 lanes....pulled over to the left shoulder to check out the bike.. bent crash bar, maybe frame....too much blood all over.,..5 stiches....at my nose/lip!
I was very lucky.....I am not dead! First wake-up call in 25 ys of riding.....I guess I needed a reminder of the risk..... I dida 350mile trip right after that ...as planned .... to be sure I would not be gun shy....very difficult! I know how those guys that had a hard crash feel ....... a little ..... cautious.
Please be looking ahead and all directions...........
wow - you're a lucky man! Good job on saving it. I just moved from SD area back up to Washington state - even though I'm from Cali and lived most of my life there I don't feel safe riding there anymore -- too many close calls like you describe. Best of luck and keep the rubber down!
Sorry to hear about you hitting the trailer. Dont know what to say about the person who blocked you other then it could have been much worse. I probably would have hit the trailer too trying to avoid hitting her and herprecious cage.Dsrtdoc
That sucks that the _unt did that on purpose. In just over an hour I will be riding to work and have to do the lane split thing.I will be thinking about your wreck!
I have had a couple cagers do this to me,but they saw me coming and pulled over before I could pass.
Glad to hear you are OK.
What she did is a felony assault on you. Obviously she vanished into the crowd of traffic, but if I'd seen that I'd have followed her and called the police for you and had that shitbag arrested. That was not an accident from what you describe.
Lane splitting has it's hazards for sure. I'm very conservative about it at all times when I do it, going just a few MPH above what the traffic is doing, pretty much weaving up the lanes sloooow and easyand continually watching for just what you describe or for the person making a lane change and not seeing you there.
