Any suggestions for integrated radar/gps solutions?
Hey everyone,
I have an electra glide ultra classic on order that will be in sometime towards the end of January. I am wanting to get some sort of a navigation package and use my valentine one radar detector through the intercom system. Is there a way to get both the radar detector and the gps to work without re-inventing the wheel? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Unless someone can say different the short answer is no. I have not found a way myself to run my garmin, escort and the HD radio. Well you can you just can't have it all run through your headset. I have any autocom and was hopping that they would make an interface like they do with the GW. That way when the detector or the gps goes off the radio mutes down so you can hear the other unit. I even think the HD radar detector (also a escort) doesn't chrip in your head set.

Unless you live in an areausing the oldX, K, Ka band radio-wave detectors, I'd put the V1 in your garage with your old LPs and mount the GPS. LIDAR is instant-on and has no scatter for your detector to read, which means no advance warning. You cannot react at the speed of light, unlike the radio-wave based bands where you can easily read the scatter before hitting the speed trap. The spread area of LIDAR is about 24" with no leaking scatter. This is why a motorcycle can be picked out of heavy traffic. I'm an electronics (communications) nut,so I'm the last guy to put the detector away. However, once the city and the CHP were switched out to LIDAR, the current generation of detectors were finished.

thanks for the info guys. I know j and m corp makes an integrator for other brands of bikes that don't have a radio built into it but utilizing the hd intercom seems to make it a little more difficult. To be honest I'ld be happy if the gps would work and could do without the v1 but if I could make it work then I would like for it to. Firetender.....They still use quite a bit of the older bands around here. I've had my v1 for many years and it has saved me numerous driving awards.[:-]

J&M makes a CFRG-HRCA unit which will integrate GPS/Phone and Radar detectors into the headset jack on the bike. Currently installed in my 09 Ultra with a Valentine 1 and working fine in first 100 miles.
