My wife and I are buying our Ultra Classic Electra Glide next week. We are considering the integrated GPS built into the radio. Looking at the catalog, though, it looks pretty basic when compared to, say, a Garmin which I use in my car. Is anyone using their GPS system and if, so, how do you like it? We are also going with the XM Radio which I cannot live without in the car and is critical for long distance travel. But at the cost the GPS which is about $1,000+ installation, it seems like maybe an add-on GPS might be a better buy? Any comments would be helpful.
If HD is charging you 1,000 for the GPS I would save it for a remote GPS. I have the Harley GPS however it came with my the CVO option. It works fine but was included. It is nice to have everything in one compact package, but Garmin models that are waterproof and integrate with the sound system are probably more desirable.
The radio with XM, CB and Intercom should include GPS. I don't know the pricing for the radio, but the GPS isn't worth 1 K on it's own.
How do you like the way it functions. It looks like it's monochrome with no mapping capabilities? Is that accurate. My wife says that maybe the Garmin could be too distracting. Of course, she's seen me in the car typing in destinations while driving, so I can't blame her!
all monochrome..just points arrows, gives you distance to turn andotherfeatures, plus voiceoutput, but very basic. stick with the Garmins or other good makes. not worth the 1K IMHO
Garmin Street Pilot, 7200 GPS with 7" touchscreen, has 12V cord, remote, voice cord has 3.5 plug that can plug into the AUX port on the radio so you can hear voice commands, mount on bars with a RAM mount, $499 final priceafter $200 rebate from Garmin.
For the money your going to spend on the HD GPS, which will be included in the selling price of the bike, you could buy the Zumo 550 and have money left over for some other stuff. IMO your better off with the Zumo, I have one and wouldn't trade it for anything..."D"
