Had my dealer install a CB radio in my 07 EC, all went well, picked it up tonight, it was dark when we arrived at the shop. When I get home and in the lighted garageI noticed the CB antenna is a good 18" (or more) taller than my AM/FM antenna.....WTF?
Going to have to take it back and see what's up.....don't look right at all......wrong antenna is all I can guess....has a small coil on the bottom and a larger coil above that, looks wrong....
Your AM/FM antenna must have been cut down sometime during it's life. TexasRedneck know his's stuff when it comes to CB's and antenna's... Sure helped me out a bunch when I had CB issues... I can now hear the "skip" on my CB
Measured my antennas, CB 49", AM/FM 38"....called dealer, someone cut the radio antenna sometime in it's life...oh well, at least I know what's up..
OK, I also have the J&M rubber antenna, seams to work OK, might not be a strong as the factory antenna ( even though shorter than factory)...anyone have experience with the J&M CB antenna? work OK? any SWR issues?
Thanks all
I've got the J&M's on mine now.. Got them from a fellow Forum member who sold his bike... Yes they were like new and work Great.. No special or additional "load" to install.. Just screw them on and your set.... SWR's well I figured J&M designed them specifically for the Harley's CB so I didn't bother to check SWR's Doesn't seem to be any adjustments on the antenna's anyway.
I assume they work (CB Antenna) good? Guess I'll either buy a new radio antenna or get the J&M CB antenna, already have the J&M radio antenna and like the looks of the short J&M.
The J & M CB/AM/FM antenna works ok. Got at least a 2 mile range for transmission. THat's as far as I ever got from the lead bike in a large ride (checked with highway mile posts). Look good and work good.
They seem a little proud of the stuff but they work and I got them pretty quick.
Yep they're the same - they're both "wound" as if they were gonna go to the CB side. A bit of overkill fer the am/fm, but this way they retain the same appearance, an' ya don't hafta worry 'bout mixin' 'em up.
