I've tried the 2 litre plastic coke bottle and gotten pretty poor results, maybe this can work better.
Not the worlds best place for a oil filter on a hot engine.
I use the 2 liter Coke bottle and didn't spill a drop. I cut the bottom off to shorten it up to get it inand around the the filter and then I cut it lengthwise in half until I got close to the pouring end and tapered it up to a V shape so that it would catch the oil with the cap on the 2 liter bottle. I did put a rag under it just in case to catch any drips when I pulled it away. I then loosened the oil filter with the wrench until it was loose enough to turn by hand and slid the coke bottle up under the filter and then loosened it all the wayand I let it drop into the plastic bottle and the excess oil just drained into the bottle down to the end where it was stopped by the cap on bottle. I let it sit there awhile until all the oil drained out and all I had to do is remove the bottle with the filter still sitting in it and not one drip went anywhere. This method worked perfect me, maybe because I used a 2 liter Diet Coke bottle. LOL
Just shows there's always more than one way to skin a hog.
I actually used to use a coke bottle too, just got sick of cutting a new one each time or cleaning for reuse. With the foil, just easier to throw out and make a new each time. I also found it easier when throw'in on a new filteralready primed with oil.
I have been doing the same thing since 2000 when Iobserved a guy at a quick change oil placeduring Sturgis use the same method. Used it on my 00' Heritage Classic, 02' Ultra Classic and now use it on my 01' Road King Classic. With my 06' Gold Wing there is no problem with an oil mess as its like changing oil on a car.....well I guess it actually is a car on two wheels.
