Hey guys, I'm just new to the Harley way of life. I am an experienced rider with a pant load of different bikes. I'm not trying to start a controvery, but I'd like to know if the Harley motors are reliable through it's lifespan. I'm sure they are, but how muchattention other than routine is required?I'm looking to buy an 08Road Glide soon, and I would appreciate everyone's input. Thanks.
I'm on my second Harley, I've put more miles on the two Harley's I've owned then I did on any of the other bikes I had in the past and haven't had a single problem that has caused me to miss out on riding. Take good care of it and it will take care of you.
I think it depends on how ur riding the bike. I never had any major problems other than a valve issue on my 05 that was covered in a warranty/recall deal. I have known HD bikes to go 100,000K before having to have any major motor repairs. There are a ton of members on this site that can vouch for that. Do a search on the "how many miles" thread. You will be surprised at how many miles guys are pulling out of these v-twins before major service. Actually most of the things I have read on this site are guys tearing the motors down to add more power like cams, heads etc. Buy the 08 it is a fine bike and as far as I'm concerned there is only one motorcycle. Good Luck.
Yes... They are... Like everything else - the better you take care of it - the longer it will last... It's nothing for the newer HD's to go well over 100K with normal maintance....
I put 95,000 on my last bike. Only routine maintenance. (1995 flhtc) I pulled the top end at 90k for peace of mind. Every think looked good. I went a head and did a top overhaul and lifters. Last time I saw the bike it have well over a 110k and was still running strong. I now have an 06 FLHTCU with 38K on it and all I have done is routine fluid changes and tires.
This was a response to Slash's question. Well, I think it's the fixed fairing. I've heard the batwing can be unstable at times in highway crosswinds. I don't know this to befact. Plus, I like the shark nose and dual head lights.
