Default WHICH BIKE WILL I END UP WITH?

After teaching school for over 30 years, I just retired. The last dozen or so I was a middle schoolprincipal. Got the kids through college and the house payed for. The wife says go for it. I've ridden lesser bikes the past 15 years or so due to financial reasons but not much longer. Always had the ache for a HD.

I'm looking to buy a touring model. Road King, Road King Classic, RoadGlide,or Electraglide Classic. I ride one-up 95% of the time. Mostly day rides around home (western Colorado) and I'd like to slip a couple of 3-4000 mile trips in per year. I'm going to look for a low mileage used bike first. There appears to be a few in the $15k range in this area. I might just approach this endeavor with the cash in hand and buy the best bike of the 4 modelsin that price range.

If that doesn't work out, I'll pull the trigger on a new one.

It's going to be a helluva lot of fun looking.

Don't overlook the Heritage Softail Classic. After a 30 yr hiatus, I sat on this bike & knew it was the ONE! You sit IN this bike, not ON it.

Don't overlook the Streetglide.
It fits in the middle of your list.
Has a clean looking back end like the Road King, but a batwing on front gives you the creature comforts and availability of stereo.

It's perfect for your day rides around home, but you can put on a detachable sissy bar and throw a big T-bag on and hit the road for your couple of trips per year.

I like the Road King. It has all the comfort you need plus if you are just going to be riding around town you can pop the windshield off and you have yourself a cool looking cruiser.

Rent 'em first and remove all doubt about which one you wished you had gotten. Then all that will be left is comparing prices. Enjoy the ride.[8D]

Having owned just about every model HD has to offer I can say that if you don't want a batwing fairing, stereo etc, then your best bang for the buck would be the Road King with hard bags. You can take the windshield on and off for different looks and still have a great touring bike. If you want the fairing which gives your great wind protection, great stereo, and the tour pack for lots of storage I would say go with the Electra Glide Classic. This is just my opinion, you'll get many others. Good luck with your search.

Congrats on the retirement JBG... also on the long range accomplishment of getting the kids sent off into the world with a good head start, and alsothe security of getting the house paid for....

You have a nice winter period to do some real fact finding andscouting.... enjoy the journey... Let me know if I can help....

Congrads on retiring and thanks for your years of service trying to teach our kids, not an easy job and you should be commended for it.
Rent everything out therefor a day ride, then go get you an Ultra, great touring bike, as long as you are riding, long or short trips may as well ride in comfort and style. Has everything you will need already on it, just get on it an ride.
I ride mine to the store, mall, work, and take trips on it, doesn't matter, just a great ride all the way around.
Good luck and be safe out there.
