Cool! Thanks Bob. I was just looking at that multifunction hub and map switch on Dynojet. Is that was you have mounted on your bars? Did you add anything else to the system, like the LCD display, ignition module,or the gear position/speed input? I don't think I would need any of that at this time, but I do like the idea of being able to switch between a couple different maps (AZ summer vs. winter, or fuel milage vs. max performance).

What about next steps...cams, big bore, heads etc? Can this setup (minus the slipons) grow with those types of upgrades and a new map?

Glad to hear you still like the purchase. I'm just learning to figure out this stuff, and your guys input is greatly valued.

Thanks again!

First, the switch mount won't fit HD handlebars (1"), but it does fit neatly on the saddlebag guards (7/8"). The left is best since your left hand is usually freer to remove from the handlebars. It is especially neat mounted between the side cover and guard bags if you have them. See photo.

Second, I don't think you need a map for mileage vs. max performance, as after 20% TP the maps are identical. Nail the throttle with one and it's the same as nailing it with the other. The beauty of the map switch is being able to run a lean map that won't heat the bike up while moving, and another for those times in summer when you are stuck in heavy traffic. I have noticed that there is quite a delay in flipping to Map 2 (richer) and seeing results (lower oil temps), so I try to anticipate the need and switch early, like well before the off-ramp before you get into heavy traffic. It isn't a panacea, but it helps--and I would definitely install an oil cooler first.

I did mount a borrowed LCD display for about one day and it gave me some useful info on TP at various cruising speeds, but I wouldn't pay $300 for one. Besides, the display is dim and hard to read in sunlight, and it isn't waterproof. There is also no mounting hardware in the kit, and I don't know where you'd permanently mount it. I had the borrowed unit velcroed to the dash on the gas tank, but that wouldn't be a good permanent location, IMO, as to see it you'd have to take your eye too far from the road.

There are other functions on the hub, but I don't know what I might use for this bike. I had thought about running the voltage readings from an O2 sensor into the analog input of the hub and allow an LCD display to log the readings, showing TP, RPM, and O2 voltage--but I haven't given too much thought to the connection process. For example, I don't know where to get an HD O2 sensor connector to rig this up properly. This logged info would tell me the A/F at any given TP and RPM, which would be very useful info if I could figure out how to rig it up. I could also do the same thing by using a voltmeter, although I understand voltage fluctuates rapidly on an O2 sensor which might make it difficult to read on a meter, especially while riding. That's why a logging feature would be useful for this.

What about next steps...cams, big bore, heads etc? Can this setup (minus the slipons) grow with those types of upgrades and a new map?
Yes, it can grow as Jamie gets maps for these upgrades, but these have been very slow coming since the 96" engine was introduced. Jamie and I think it's because most owners like the performance of the engine as-is when equipped with common mods like PCIII, AC, and slip-ons. Another reason is that few cams appear to be available that make a meaningful difference for this engine. I've seen dyno charts for 96's with Andrews 26 cams, a combo that works great on TC88/95's, but results showed little improvement. One person here posted a chart with SE 255's and his HP was improved some but TQ no more than where I stand with my present setup. It would certainly be more with Jamie's baffles and a custom map, however. That might be a good setup if/when Jamie does a map for it. For me TQ is paramount, and until I see a cam that'll provide TQ at

This deffinately sounds like a good setup for me to do, with the summers out here. What oil cooler did you run? I think I'm gonna be very happy with Jaimies set up and an IDS install.

Excellent informationBob! Thank you very much for taking the time for such a great write up!

Thanks very much for taking the time for this write-up on the fuel moto stuff. I was teetering on the edge of deciding to go with this set-up or not, you convinced me. I know fuel moto does good, I got a PCIII for my 06 dyna, and it ran great. didn't touch any of the settings after installing it.

I think for the buck, this will be a great improvement for my bike, making me happy, and my bike happy.

thanks again. Now, just a couple more Christmas presents for the kids and wifey...then it's MY turn HAHA HOHO.

I like the idea of the map switch for my type of riding, but I think the oil cooler would be the first thing to add. I'm running the HD Premium, which has a thermostat in the adapter housing, and it has performed well so far. I would also look at the Jaag 10-row, either the low-mount near the voltage regulator or vertical-mount on the left downtube. If I had to do it over again I would probably go with the 10-row and a thermostat, although I've heard the Jaag thermostats can be problematic. A friend installed one and it opened to early, then the replacement opened too late or not at all, so he then opted to go without a t'stat. I wouldn't add a cooler without a t'stat, as the air-cooled engine has enough trouble warming up as it is without adding a cooler to cool oil that is already cold. That just prolongs warm-ups, contaminates the oil more, decreases gas mileage, and probably decreases engine life.

I recommend Jamie's kit, but don't expect it to be obnoxiously loud, because it isn't. For me it is perfect, and I couldn't ask more of a stock engine in the way of performance. As for IDS, that's another big thumbs-up if you own an '07 FLH!

I don't have fuel injection on my 97 Road King, other than rejetting the carburator, would I need to install any additional hardware with the newmodified Rush mufflers? Aside from gaining performance, how much difference is there in gas milage from stock Harley mufflers? Last but not least, would you say that new modified mufflers are quieter than the 1.50" stock Rush baffles and what other muffler would you compare them sound to? At 57 years of age I still like a little rumblewithout the ear ringing from a set of loud pipes, especially after a long run. All comments on sound, performance and gas milage would be greatly appreciated..........Billy Bob

Iclick, I understand that the new baffles are quieter than the old ones. But how do the new mufflers with the baffles compare to the stock mufflers, are they louder with more growl? The stock mufflers are a touch too quiet, EVEN the neighbours complain that it doesn't sound like a Harley.....
