Default Craftsman jack placement

Tried my Christmas present out on my Ultra. I got the aluminum frame one and it seems with the width of the lands it's either too far forward or won't quite fit in the channel on the cross member if I move it back. Is using blocks the answer or how are you guys doing it?

Thanks

Yes, please explain more. I got this same jack for Christmas for my Road King, but I haven't had a chance to get it out of the box yet.

It doesn't need to fit in the channel. Roll the jack under the bike with the forward pad about 2" rear of the kickstand. To do this, you'll need to have the bike upright. I hold the bike up and roll the jack under it with my foot. Raise it up a little and check the other side for good frame contact. Continue lifting. Tie it down or not, your choice, I usually don't. Be careful as you lower it, hang on to the bike and don't let it come down too fast. Very handy tool.

I didn't buy the aluminum one but have been using the regular Craftsman Motorcycle/ATV jack ever since I got the bike in March. It works great for detailing her as well as performing maintenance. Never had a problem using it, just find a good lifting point (on my RKC is roughly center of the engine bay and everything works great.

Good luck.

Apeking....

I have the newer aluminum yellow jack and it works fine on the my RK. There is a cross member on the bottom frame. I leave the bike leaning on the kickstand and watch as I roll the jack under the bike. I position the rear jack pad so it sits just in front of that cross member and I have about 1.5 inches sticking out each side of the bike. I hold onto the bike as I jack it up and it self levels as it sits on the jack. Once I have it jacked up in place I lower it down onto the auto lock mechanism and attach one of the safety straps.

Works great.

This is all you need. 10 seconds, the bike is up, front or rear, no teetering, no tie downs and NO stress.

Been using this lift for eight years on my slammed softail and just bought a second one for my FLTRI. The handle has been redesigned for bikes with hard bags. This jack is extremely stable even when the entire front end or rear end of the bike is disassembled.

Price is $119, website...http://www.cyclelifts.com

Looks like it would work for stabilizing the bike, how does it work for getting both wheels off of the ground?
