I purchased a set of chrome switch housings for my 08 Road King Classic. I take it out of the box and notice an extra hole in both lower housings (used for audio controls on bikes so equipped). This is Harley part# 70222-96C which the dealer assured me is the correct part# and also states on the box it will fit 2002 and later Road Kings. I see on their web site a part# 70222-96B which also states is for the Road King (maybe without cruise control?). Does anyone know if 70222-96B has the extra hole in the lower housing and will fit the 08's? Did the dealer give me the wrong part? Also, on the stock housing there appears to be a rectangular black plug in each of the lower stock housings although no chrome plugs came in the kit.
One other question - can I expect any issues with the new throttle setup on the 08's?
I'm going to call the dealer but I am expecting the usual "I dunno" that I sometimes get from them.
The extra hole in each side does make sense now. Apparently on the cruise equipped RK's earlier than 08, these holes held lights indicating cruise control operation. On the 08's, these lights are in the speedometer and the holes are covered with plastic plugs. Maybe someone makes chrome ones - I don't know but I'll look around.
Still don't know about the new 08 throttles and how that may impact this install (if at all).
I've yet to start disassembly - I'm trying to get a good understanding of everything that needs doing before I begin.
Swapped my 08 RK out with the chrome housings. The directions that come with are a little confusing as they (like other Harley directions) try to cover all the different models. Still read the directions. I did not have any issues with my throttle in fact at the same time I swapped out my grips. Once you take the screws out for the brake/clutch (don't forget your little piece of cardboard on the brake side) and then remove the upper and lower screws holding the housing together the throttle grip comes right off. Kind of nice. No cables to jack with. Take your time and don't rush. Should be fine.
