I've heard that the front suspension is different on a FLHT.The right legis a traditional damper rod style, the left leg is a cartridge style...according to AIM...this gives better ride and handling.

I never heard that before. I wish my service manual would come in.

i bought an flht (harley number 14 for me) and the windbuffeting on my full face helmet, was from hell as it even blurred my vision... 2 helmets and 4 different wimpshields later, i wanted to trade for a roadking... the dealer would get in my knickers for 5 grand to trade....
i bought a parts book and went on ebay and now have a roadking and its great (a lot of work, to do it right though... the front forks are different bebtween the two models, but not an issue in a conversion.. its still a work in progress... i dont know if the conversion will hurt my resale or not....

I traded my road king on a ultra. My take is they both ride about the same, low speed turning is a little easier on the king because of less weight on the front forks. Better protection from the bat wing fairing. On the hiway I seem to get blown around more on the ultra from wind gust and esp big trucks, probably due to the fairing and tour pak acting as a big wind sails. Do I miss the king? Sometimes it would be nice to go without the windshield/fairing but I love the tach, radio, volt/oil pressure gauges, lowers and the tour pak. What ever you choose you'll love it, FL is the way to go. Rent a couple of diffrent models and compare then go with what makes you happy. Good luck.

not according to my parts manual. they are not exactly the same between fairing and non-fairing models, springs have different part numbers. but the construction is the same. i think that was a year specific thing and they have done away with that.

I heard that the trees are different on a flht hence the reason for a smoother and better handling bike. has to be a reason why the older geezers prefer flht over roadkings especially since so many had roadkings and got flht and never went back
nope, all the touring models use the same triple trees. the fairings make for more comfort, that could be the reason.

Love my RKC. Your own choice. I do like the ability to add a fairing (which will be detachable) if you want. I just like the classic look. Guess it is a personal kind of thing................... They are all great bikes.
