wow....an 08 with 150 miles and already a lemon? that didnt take long. I just picked up my 08 POSE Ultra Yesterday.....and already have 300 miles on it. Run likes a top......If you want one man just dive in...thats the best way to do it! GOOD LUCK!
bought a 07.. weeks later came here to find out,, WTF is up with it...I started the
longest biggest post in HD forum history on the 07 probs.
put bunch of $$ into it,,, still not happy.
traded for a 08,, added slipons, 5,000 miles of trouble free, happy miles.
so, I guess I got the 07 lemon
08 is the way to go>
those that dont say so, dont have a clue!
You got it right. '08 is the way to go if you got an '07 lemon. Or '06 or another '07 that wasn't a lemon.
If I remember correctly your biggest complaint was the clattering '07. You mentioned you put a bunch of $$$ into it. Did you install the IDS before you traded your '07 for an '08 with IDS?
I didn't have the clattering issue but I did find the 5th gear whine annoying. Just my opinion. I installed the IDS for two reasons:
1. I hoped it would further quiet the 5th gear whine.
2. I've been in the power transmission business for enough years to know a cushioned sprocket will smooth out the tranny.
IDS did both. No audible 5th gear whine and tranny is smooth in every gear from2000 rpm's to redline. Your dealer's advice is half right. If you don't feel you need it don't do it. BUT if you do install IDS it will make your tranny even smoother and there is NO downside to installing it.
I'm reading it all cause unless it's pouring rain or snowing here in DFW, (and thats is likely tomorrow), I'm riding over to drop off the 06 for my new 08 103" SG. I did a fair amount of test riding these 08's and not only was the bike the smoothest shifting, quietest transmission, quickest HD, had the best brakes, drive by wire that for me felt VERY responsive, it was the most solid feeling with the best road manners of any Harley I've ever ridden. I bought another SG, but the Road Glide 103" I tested was absolutely sublime. I mean I'm trying to think of a single word for seamless, sure footed, FAST..(know I was pumping over 100ft/lb of torque wellbefore 3000RPM) and screwed down tight. Hmmmm...maybe I'll be back here getting in line with others regarding heat, transmission and noise, but if I do, I must have been having a severe case of ADD while testing the 08's I rode
Yeah, I read EVERY post on that thread starting about8 monthsago through yesterday. That's the main reason that I cancelled the deal on the '07 just before I was to take delivery. Thanks, man.
Instead of"just jumping into it", as some have suggested, I decided to research these bikes at the last minute. Really glad that I did! I've been riding for over 50 years and I am fully aware of how the MOCO does business and how it has treated its customers in the past. Impulse-buying to the tune of $20,000+++ just ain't my thang.
Actually, when the parts guy, who the salesman conveniently introduced me to, stated that I could "finance the $1500 worth of parts required to make it (the '07 that I was about to buy) sound & run like a Harley", I gotto thinking, if it don't "sound & run like a Harley" for the outrageously high MSRP that I'm about to pay for it, then screw that!
I went home and got on the computer & found your thread plus several other websites and blogs that outlined the manyproblems that people were experiencing with this specific model.
Personally, I have no faith or trust whatsoever in anyone or any business entitythat wants to make moneyby selling me something! So far, that philosophy has served me incredibly well.
Thank you again for keeping me from possibly making a huge financial mistake last spring! I'm still considering an '08.

but you're still gonna have to put money into an 08 to make it 'sound' like a harley. as far as making it run like a harley, i didn't have to put any money into my 07 to make it run right. it ran just fine stock. however, i did choose to add the true duals, se ac and pciii. but again, it was not a requirement.
