I'm considering purchasing an '08 Ultra next spring. I was gonna buy an '07, but after finding this forum and the 2007 tranny problems thread (yes, I've read every post on it!) I cancelled the deal 2 days before I was to takedelivery.
Can anyone offer me some advice regarding any serious problems with the '08's? Should I wait for the '09's to come out? Any opinions on the ABS option? How about that fly-by-wire throttle system? Seems like a lotta stuff to potentially fail and leave me stranded. Does anyone know if they installed different maps in the ECM for '08 to address the engine heat/performance issues? Iwill spend exactly ZERO on add-ons, upgrades etc.- $21,000+ is enough! If these bikes aren't right in the bone-stock configuration, then I don't want one!
Many thanks in advance for any advice you guys can provide!
If you think they cured the '07 problems in the '08 ya need to read some more... They fixed the rear end noise by installing the IDS in the '08's & offered a discount to all the '07 owners to have the up-grade - It's still the same engine and trans - YES the '08 RUN HOT and that's do to the EPA requirements - Trans still a bit noisy as they didn't change the gearing but from what I have heard it's improved (less noise) with the IDS???
Yes the '08's have a LARGER FUEL TANK - YES it's about time HD went with the ABS - Yes the '08 has the new fly-by-wire and even with that you'll see a thread or two about it also.
Every year HD offers something new or why would any one ever want to ever change.. Will there be changes in '09 You Bet - What's it going to be ?????? Only HD knows for sure... Will there be a WATER COOLED HD SOMEDAY.... YOU BET THERE WILL BE...
Is the '07 a POOR MC... "NO" - There has been many threads here and I would say that "MOST" of the members here that bought the '07 are happy with there Bikes...
I have an '08 Ultra. Bought it last August for a birthday present to myself.
I haven't had one problem with it. Period. It's about a close to perfect that it could be in every respect. One of the best riding motorcycles I've ever owned.
I am convinced ABS is the way to go and will get it on my next bike. It is not a cure all but the upside is worth it. Check the Harley ABS on You Tube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VaDHxX3kVM
I wanted ABS so I bought my Ultra the first week they came out. Not one problem. I noticed it was hotter than my 06, but after the first 200 miles it runs cooler. The heat has never been a problem for me in Texas. The bike rides great.
Dang - no one ever tells me NUTHIN'!!! Ya mean ah've put over 12k on mah '07 an' it ain't no good?!?!?!? Darn - quick, someone tell me what's wrong with it so ah kin complain!
I ride with a few guys with 07 baggers (2 Classics and 1 Ultra) and they have had no problems at all. If you can find a screaming deal on a holdover 07 I sure wouldn't be afraid of it!
got over 10K on my '07 UC with no problems, other than it doesn't come with studded tires and a defroster so that I can still ride it here in Idaho in the snow.
