I cant help it. IM Excited!!!
ropd0184, I too traded in a 1700 roadstar for my 08 s/g. You are right, stock, the 96 has less torque than the roadstar but when you do the stage Iyou will love it even more.I'll bet you are already saying to yourself, " why didnt I just get this bike to begin with"?. Welcome to the board!!
To everyone else, thank you so much for your kind welcomes....one of mySupervisors said "the day you go and buy your Harley, you will have entered into a new relm of Motorcycling and Motorcyclists, you are in fact riding the King of the Road, and there is no other feeling like it". Silly as it sounds...he hit that nail right on the head.....looking forward to chattin with yall more.
Congratulations on the new bike... Let the spending begin, LOL.
Welcome to the boards
Just do some research here on this forum and don't be afraid to ask questions. There are always plenty of opinions, usually good ones.
For your new bike, if you intend to make the sound more "Harley" like, you will need new, more open mufflers... something you don't get from the stock mufflers that come on your bike.
Many here, including myself, installed Rush Slip on mufflers. They come in a variety of baffle sizes, the larger the baffle, the more sound you will get. Mine has two inch baffles and it sounds great. There are several aftermarket mufflers that can do the trick as well. Expect to spend around $300 or so for slip on mufflers. Maybe a little less. Here is a link to the Rush website http://www.epiflex.com/
When you add mufflers such as these, you'll need to have a fuel management system to adjust for the difference in air moving through. HD engines run lean to accomodate EPA regulations and changing the muffs will lean it out even further. A lean running engine is a hotter running engine.
Harley Davidson makes such a system called a SERT, which is an acronym for Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner. The device is complex, but is probably the best alternative for you if you don't mind spending the money. The SERT is $459 plus labor and you will need to have your bike tuned on a dyno to ensure it's set up right. You will also need a new air intake, as the stock one won't allow enough air to enter the engine.
I just had a SERT, SE intake and dyno done for $577, with winter specials at my dealer. Check with yours to see if they have anything similar.
There are also third party tuner systems that cost less, but have some issues that you can read about on this forum. Something to consider, as they do cost less.
Here is a good link about SERTs http://www.w4jf.com/s_e_r_t_.htm There is some good reading there.

Now second question....If I want the k&n air filter, and the Rush Pipes, BUT I want the SERT fuel mgmt system.......which do I need to do first...I can do the air intake and the slipons..and let the stealer do the computer.....would that work?
