Default input on 99 ultra

Ok folks, I need some quick advice. Brother called last night...........he's looking at a 99 Ultra with 26k on it.........lots of mods apparently (Don't ask, don't know!) it has V&H pipes (not sure if slip ons) chrome front end......he says lots of other stuff (I paid no attention, wicked tired, very long work week!) Single owner older gentleman.............asking 11k. He asked for my advice on this thing as I've most always had baggers. I told him ask about the cam chain tensioners..........and what other probs the guy has had and what he's already done to it. Bro's calling back today...............what should he look for? My concern is the usual early/first year motor concerns. Help!

Thanks all
"Troll"

I would try to buy it for 9-10k, and at that price, you could spend a bunch of money on it and still be ok. Really, 11k is not bad, but if you have to drop 3 grand on it to get on the road, you might be a little deep. I always look at it as a basket case waiting to happen, and if it doesn't crap out on me, then I am money ahead.....

He should ask if the early Twinkie cam bearing has been changed. If not, figure on doing it before it goes out.

A '99 will have the less desireable fuel injection, a swingarm that issometimes proneto crack, the old style brakes, the old style wheel bearings that require servicing, and like said above.........mostly likely the weakrear cam bearing still in itthat will need to be updated.

Thanks for the replies...........that bike is already gone! Sold for 10.5 yesterday. Now he's onto an 04 Ultra. I feel much better about that! Hope he's able to pull it off.
