Default Ultra Classic Problems??

I have a buddy who is looking at a '99 Ultra Classic, and was told by a stealer in the Columbus area to stay away from that year - something concerning the fuel management system?? Don't know any more - he asked if I'd check around for him and get some opinions.

Thanks -

JA

He's probably just saying stay away from Magneti Marelli EFI systems, as they are inferior to the Delphi systems on newer bikes. That said, there are a lot of happy owners still riding them every day.

They have the older M&M fuel injection and they are prone to problems, the computers are hard to tweek, and they also have some bad cam bearings......but other than that they are a good bike....I changed mine over to a carb and it runs just fine....as far as the cam bearings and chain tensioner they can be replaced pretty easy.

99's had potential for cam bearing failure in some bikes. Ask me how I know.

Biggest thing that I have noticed is after a month or so the idle drops & I have to disconnect the battery & reset it. Then it is fine for a while. I get 40-45 mpg by my self back & forth to work & have gotten 50 mpg 2 up in the mountains. Other than that, the bike runs great. It does have the 95 CI upgrade.
