Need advice - best sounding slip-ons - do the exist??
I have a 2006 RK Custom and so far have tried V and H slips and Samson. Both sound fair but not aggresive like the true harley sound I want - the head turner. i know that slip ones will never compare to a true dual set up but does anyone have a brand they really think sound awesome. I would like more volume and of course more agressive HD sound. Can you help?

I kept the stock pipes and drilled out both plugs in each pipe, effectively making them "straight-thru". With the mufflers still on the bike, I used a 1-1/4" bi-metal hole saw with a 12" extension. You don't even have to take the mufflers off to do this. They are fairly quiet at idle and cruising speeds but can get loud when you crank the throttle. I'm fairly satisfied with them and plan on keeping them this way. I would recommend trying this first. If you don't like it, you can always spend the money on other mufflers but this is free.

Well, if you already tried Samson (which I have) and VH, and still want more noise, then you are obviously wanting something on the LOUD end of the scale. I considre my Samson ovals fairly loud. I'm sure others will have ideas on louder pipes. I have heard the Thunderheader slips ons, and I think they bark pretty loud, buts its a different sound than a traditional "Harley" sound, which you said you want.
Best thing you can do: Go to Sturgis, Laconia, Daytona, etc. and check out all the pipes you see. When you hear something you like, ask.

Buy a set of mufflers thatyou can pull the baffles out then buy a set of Big City Thunder baffles and install them in the pipes not the mifflers, I have, I think you will be happy, I am, the sound is awesome.[sm=exactly.gif]

Go to ebay and type in Wild Pigs. You can get a great sounding (deep and throaty) set of slip ons for about 145$! Heck they even come with a t-shirt. Once ya get them take the baffle out and take the packing from around the baffle and reinstall the baffle alone.

I've tried a bunch and heard them all. Trust me, Hooker tuned-flow slip ons are the deepest, most powerful sounding mufflers you can get for a bagger. They are not obnoxiously loud like straight pipes, but they aren't quiet either. They have an awesome sound.

I purchased the Rinehart True Duals for my '05 Ultra and it definitely turns heads. They make a 2.5 and 3 inch baffle for them. I have the 2.5 in mine but both sound great. 3 inch comes stock and is a little louder.
