ORIGINAL: UPSGUY

I had a SG back in 06 and i didnt keep it long for a few reasons and the biggest one was at speed (60+) i got a lot of head buffing, I do wear a full face helmet in the winter and that is when i bought the bike and i never got to ride it with a half helmet to see the difference. I want another SG but i dont want the headache i got from the wind buffing. A taller wind screen is not the answer as i think it takes away from the look of the SG. So what im asking is do any of you get head buffing with a half helmet?
You can still keep the StreetGlide look and use a bit of a taller shield. 6 or 7 inch. The front fork baffle will also help with the buffeting.

Cee Bailey's Super Step Contour, best IMHO windshield out there.

this topic came up before, when i still had the batwing and i hoped then, that the mods would be a panacea...NOT..... my experience was different from some of the others.... the baffle made no difference at all, except it kept some of the rain from blowing off the tank... two of the windshields that i bought were cee baileys and they did help a bit, but the buffeting was still unacceptable.....i cutthe stockwindshield down intwo inch incrementsand thought that i would just get a blast of air (which i can live with), but i got buffeting so bad, it blurred my vision....
a taller windshield like the stock flht will solve the problem! however, i cant stand to look thru a plastic windshield that is covered with bugs and god knows we have enough of them in florida..
i became a fanatic to find a cure, as i had a new bike (harley number 14) that i hated.... the dealer wanted five grand to take the bike back on a RK... so i bought a parts manual and did it myself... for me, it was the only solution...riding with no windshield is fine when i have the ff helmet... i ride in bad weather, rain etc and never stop.... when i had a windshield on my fatboy, the rain would dump in my face (half helmet) and drown me and i would have to stop..

The taller windshield will fix it and is better with the fork baffle.

With all due respect to all the attempts you all have made to fix this....you are on an open motorcycle out in the open. If there is the slightest wind coming from anywhere except maybe dead-on front you are going to get wind buffetting. The bigger and less aerodynamic you helmet is, the more its going to bounce your head around. Unless you find some way to build a totally enclosed cab for your bike you're going to have to deal with the wind. Even without any helmet and a windshield so tall you have to stand up to look over it your going to get an effect from the wind if it is hitting you from any angle other than straight in front of you. If it really bothers you that much I would recommend 2 things, first look around for a better helmet, then second get in the gym and do some military presses and other weight lifting to help build up your neck muscles so you have better control of the added weight of a helmet.

Just my nickels worth.

I have the stock windshield on my 08 Ultra, maybe the difference is in the lower fairing. We don't have very many days in Wyoming without any wind, but on that rare occasion both the wife and I notice that its almost like driving in a convertable car, you can hear the wind but can't feel it. But as soon as there is a slight breeze you can feel the helmet being bounced around by the wind (more wind way more head bouncing). My wife will sometimes actually put one hand on the lower rim of her FF modular helmet to help hold it in place. I tend to tuck my head in (or raise my shoulders) to the point that my helmet rubs a little on the collar of my jacket and it stops everything from bouncing around. I just think buffeting is not caused by the movement of a bike through a relatively calm air space, its caused when there is an off-center wind added to the mix, and just don't think there is anything you can add to your bike that will make it go away.

...DOT half's and beanies are notorious for bouncing around in the breeze..that's one of the reasons people were those little non-DOT helmets, they sit down on your head and aren't subject to so much of the effects of buffeting.
..and I tried the fork baffel yesterday, installed, rode about 25 miles, seemed worse or maybe just a different buffeting that wasn't an improvement. I removed mine and returned to dealer within 30 minutes of my test ride. Seems to work for some so I wouldn't rule it out..try it..if it works for you go with it..only $22.
