In addition to the above posts, get a GPS like the Zumo and load the HD dealers POI into it.Touch of a button and you'll always know where the closest dealer is(and phone #) when you need service.
What he said - I have never had a problem traveling - I have even had dealrships stay open for us trying to fix a buddies bike - they were there until 9:30PM - those guys were great.

I have always gotten GREAT service when traveling. Unlike the service I get from local dealers. I just won't take my bike there unless it's warranty related....

For touring bikes I try to find a spare rear wheel & keep a new tire mounted on it. Then when I plan a long trip I use that tire/wheel & save the remaining tread on the other one for shorter trips. Usually keeps me from throwing away 30-40% of a tire or paying dealer price for a replacement on the road (I do my own tire work).

Like others have said, most dealers will work you in at the front of the line if you're on a trip. Another idea, when you know more about your itinerary, is to post it & see if anyone along your route has a garage you could change your own oil in. You'll know it's done right & meet someone friendly at the same time. Even buyin' your new host dinner will be cheaper than an oil change at a dealers......... Another group I'm on does it all the time.
Great idea of finding a friend along the route. I've never thought of that but it would be fun to help out someone passing through. I'd be honored to put a fellow riders bike up on the lift and help with the oil change and service items when passing through on a long trip.

Dealers will put you first if your traveling. We went to Gettysburg Bike Week last July and a friends O2 sensor failed right in front of BattleField HD and they had him in and out within an hour and it was wall-to-wall people and bikes.

Is there anyplace I download HD dealer GPS coordinates? I know they are available for BMW dealers; but I've never heard of a file for HD dealers.

My wife and drive from Anchorage thru Canada, and drive a different route through the states to the east coast and back every couple of years. We have the Harley tour book, and when a service is coming due, we call ahead to whatever dealership is close. We have always had great service experiences and have had no breakdowns along the way.

FLHS......when do you plan on leaving and what is your general route along with time off?? Everything was pretty much covered in the above replies. I 2nd the tip for keeping a Harley Tour book, has all the vitals,phone,address,capabilities......found it to be very handy on my trip earlier this year.

Hey Bob, I have a bit of experience traveling across country as I have done it a couple of times already. This year I did 9200 miles in 6 weeks. I picked up oil and filters at local Harley shops and did my own changes. As far as tires they pretty much accomadate you knowing what you are doing. You will have no problems. I will be leaving in 08 around 9th or 10th of May to cross again. I will be alone for much of the ride so if you would like maybe we can hook up and I will tell you my plans and if they fit into what you are thinking maybe we can hook up for the ride it sure would be great to have company. I am planning probably a 9000 mile trip and will be back middle of June. Get back to me if you are interested and I will call you and talk about it. Bill

I think I would change out the tires before the trip and not have to worry about that part. You should be able to get 10k out of a set.
i agree. and if you're running synthetic u should be able just to change the engine oil at 5k
