I got a question
First this is my second post on this site. Seems like a pretty good place to hang out. Lots of good info on here.
I have an 01 RKC that I bought in 04. The guy that had it before me put Hooker Tuned Flows slip ons on it and didn't have a remap done. So after 3 years and about 49,000 miles I have finally gotten tired of the popping from the exhaust and I'm wanting to do a couple of minor things like the SE AC kit (which I bought yesterday), Fullsac True Dual conversion (I know it's not a performance system, that's not what I'm looking for), and naturally I will be putting a PCIII on it.
OK so here's the question. I know that the bike is running rich as hell. Would it hurt to put the SE AC kit on it without the PCIII for about a month. It would seem to me that more/free'er airflow (however little that may be) could only lean it out a little bit.
I've done some searching on this site but just can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for.

You could try it but generally the popping is caused by a lean condition. My tuner had to add fuel to eliminate the decel popping. If you waited this long, it may be best to wait a little longer for the pcIII.
Welcome to the forum and yes there are is a lot of knowledge here. Look in the classified section for a PCIII, I would rather buy from these guys anyday than joe blow on bay. Many members upgrade throughout the months on the forum and sell their used parts here.
Jamie at fuelmoto sells the pcIII also for a good deal.

I have Rush slipon's on my '07 RKC. I had alot of decel popping until I replaced the stock headers with V&H Dresser Duals. I'm not sure why ... but the popping has completely stopped.
A couple of misconceptions here. Deceleration popping can be caused much more by a rich condition or by a leak somewhere in the exhaust. On the exhaust stroke of a cylinder, there is cam overlap that allows some unburnt fuel to get into the exhaust as both the intake and exhaust valve are open briefly at the same time. This unburnt fuel needs just the right amount of air to detonate (burn) in the exhaust system. Without additional air, the mixture is to rich to ignite and you wont get the popping. With a leak, you can get to the right A/F mix and it will pop. Sometimes a too rich condition of the engine provides for just the right A/F mix in the exhaust that it will ignite without a air leak. Most new EFI systems address this by a lean deceleration setting, meaning that when you close the throttle, the A/F of the engine goes very lean until you get back to idle, not pumping a lot of unburnt fuel into the exhaust and thus not providing the right A/F in the exhaust for ignition. You will find most persons that tune bikes set the A/F on the rich side. Another cause of popping is if you have changed cams and there is a large amount of overlap in the cam, again allowing fuel into the exhaust. Just remember, the popping that you hear is actually ignition of the unburnt fuel in the exhaust, so a lean condition is very less likely to cause popping on decel.
Two areas to look at, first, check your entire system for leaks, tighten all clamps and manifold bolts. Second, depending on the type of aftermarket tuner you are running, check the enleanment setting when the throttle is closed on deceleration. Third, check your overall A/F ratio. If you are not getting poor fuel economy (< 40-45 mpg) you are too rich across the board.

Damn the views and replies come quick around here. Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna go ahead and order the PCIII today and the wife will just have to do without some Christmas this year. LOL J/K
