I have been looking for weeks for someone around here with one, no luck.
Anybody have one?
Was it difficult to mount?
How does it sound?
I would like to have a radio and the Harley road tech is the only one I like the looks of. I don't want to cut loose with the $$$ if it sounds like crap. I can live with the car stereo adaptation look for better sound.
Don't own one but I listened to it on display at the dealer and wasn't impressed with the sound quality. A riding buddy has handelbar mounted speakers, 150w amp, XM/mp3 that I think sounds and looks much better for less coin.
I just bought one used on ebay for $530. I am very impressed w/ the quality of the unit. It sounds great at lower speeds. I have loud mufflers, and @ 60+ its hard to hear unless its really cranked up. As far as hook up goes its very straight forward. 3 wires and a bracket. It also has a weather alert feature which is nice if your on a trip.
By any chance do you have the Road Tech Radio instruction manual that you can post or email to me? I too bought mine off of eBay for my 2003 RK, but it came with no installation instructions.

Thanks.
You should be able to go into your dealer and head back to the parts counter. They can/should be able to print out the instructions for you.
FWIW, I've seen one that was mounted to a RK and, behind the windshield, it's not really obtrusive or an eyesore. Without the w/s, I think it'd look pretty odd, but in this case it actually took me a minute to notice it. The owner said it was a very decent system, most of the time he ran his Sirius through it vice listening to the radio.
i bought one (without knowing anything about it), put it on, took off down the road for a day trip. Got back home, took it off, put it back in the box, and brought it back... the HD dealer gave me crap about returning it but they took it back. Sounds like CRAP!!!
Do yourself a favor, grab a pair of J&M amplified handlebarmount speakers and an IPOD. These things are not cheap but they sound 100% better than the HD Road Tech Riser box.
i had one on my rk for 3 years. just traded it in on a new 08 road glide. i liked the radio, it was decent at low speeds, but on the highway it wasn't that great. however, i nearly always used a set of etymonic ear buds when on trips and between the regular radio and having my xm hookedinto it, it worked great. i haven't really heard any system perform that well at highway speeds on a bike with a windhield.
i also used a bare fairing that used the windshield mounts when the weather got cooler, and the radio sounded a lot better as you might expect.
