Sifularson has the right idea.

Try to buy as new as you can "reasonably" afford. The prices are very negotiable right now. The dealers want to sell the bikes. You can go lower than MSRP with options. The cost could be fairly close to what a well kept 06.
Besides with the 08 you get warranty, ABS and 96 cubic inches vs 88.

I'd go new if I could get a good deal.

I would have to bet that if he went with an '06, even though they are great bikes for the above stated reasons, and even if he was lucky enough to find a good deal, he would still end up saying "What if?".

If he can afford it and can shop around a bit for a good deal at a dealership looking to move a bike in the cold time of year, I would recomend buying an '08...Brembo brakes, 96" motor, 6spd trans, stiffer frame, blacked out motor and wheels, full length tank dash, IDS, new seat, and 6 Gal tank. The only problem with the '08's is I don't care for any of the colors except for the Crimson Red Sunglow or Vivid Black.

G'luck!

There is nothing wrong with an 06. I had a 06 EG and it was and still is excellent.
With that said, and money not being a factor why would you want a 06 over an 08?
Bigger motor, six speed, bigger tank, IDS, etc, etc, etc.
I have no heat or other issues with my 08. If I had anything to complain about it would be that its too good. Almost not Harley like.
Ya I had to put on exhaust, a/c, and fuel management to get it where I liked it but you would do that with an 06 or any other year for that matter.
If money is a factor an 06 is just fine (I liked the silver motor better anyway) otherwise it a "no brainer".

My .02,
Doug

It depends, to me, on the savings in $$$. If the 06, with extras, is about the same $$ as the 08, I get the 08 and make it into my image of what I wanted in a bike.

gunrunner is right. I bought a 05 RK with 2 K miles on it just because its a 05. No heat problems or EPA garbage on it like the 07 & 08's. It's a better faster bike than the new ones. Their prices came down to match the new bike prices.

I have a '07 Road Glide and not having any major problems - I like the the TC 96 and the 6 speed is killer

Only advantage of a '08 would be the IDS (installed) - ABS (a real +) larger Fuel Tank (no really a + as I don't care for the looks)

The Twin Cam 88 is just a GREAT Engine also - If ya put a 95" kit and a baker 6-speed and is set-up right then you can run all over the stock 96" \6-speed any day any time...

But BUYING NEW - It means it's all YOURS from day 1 - You put it together the way YOU WANT to....

Only problems with the 06 was that they were really ugly. Oh yeah, 08's are too though.

Cant go wrong either way, good luck.

My vote is for the '08 for the ABS and IDS. Smoother and safer than the '06. jmho

I think the black motor on the '08 would be enough of a reason for me to buy it over previous years. Realistically if the guy has the money he should buy the newest he can afford to comfortably own.
