Just wondering if there are any advantages in re-doing my stock RG saddle in leather--you know, comfort, ETC ?
Or getting an after market leather saddle ?
Any downside other than cost.
Real leather won't last long if it gets wet. I would not waste the money.
Pleather does not last long, unless you leave it in the garage and don't sit on it.
Unless you are looking for some fancy tooling, check out the excellent seats made by Corbin, Mustang, and others. I have had nothing but leather seats (all Corbin) for over 30 years. I still have the first one (on my BMW), and I am not a fair-weather rider. With proper care, it will last longer than I will. Find someone you know that has a leather seat, and find the one that suits you best.
I agree with looking at the Corbins. Currently ride one and have had many others on other bikes. If you look at their website they will tell you about the construction of their seats. The seating area is done in leather and the sides are done in another material because that's where all the stress on a seat is. Leather is a much better feel for riding than vinyl. Put a little conditioner on it from time to time and you will have it forever. Not many out that that use leather but the cost is worth it.
There have been a few comments on this site about poor customer service from Corbin, is that kind of normal, or just a few customers that "fell through the cracks". I really like the looks of the Corbin saddles, but I've had experience with Mustang where they let me try a set of seats for 30 days, and if I didn't like them I could send them back. The few comments I've read here is that once you buy a corbin there is no return option.....is that true?
Corbin SUCKS!! They don't deserve to be in business, their attitude towards their paying customers is that we are crap and don't know anything about seats.
Now, if you want someone to make your stock seat MUCH more comfortable, try fellow HDForum member BadX. He will redo your seat to how you want it for comfort. This is his site; http://www.meancitycycles.com/
