You may not be able to tell it's loose by looking at it. Mine was loose enough to hear the knocking sound and I still needed a breaker bar with a pipe on the end to break it loose. (insert your "time to hit the gym weakling" jokes here).

Can you here the knocking better at idling, I have a knock in mine and not sure where it's coming from. Doesn't do it as soon as I start it up, but in a few seconds it starts to knock. Could this be the problem?

Probably and after it warms up it quiets down a bit man it had me freeked out . just bought the bike in july and it started knocking in october it was 2005 RG took it to the steeler guy new exactly what it was and still charged me 80.00 bucks I think Iwill go back and ask about the bulletin If I am reading this right they are supose to fix it for free ?Well I suppose I could find a little bling for 80bucks or so !

a friend of mine had the knocking noise going on
said it sounded like the bottom end was coming apart
turns out comp.nut loose

by the way if haven't read this wrong is your bike 88in
or something different ?decent numbers for what you have listed

just wundrin

I have a copy of the service bulletin right here, I'll scan and post it later this evening. It's basicly what Twincam said: Touring,Softail and Dyna models 2003 through 2005
