I'm putting down a deposit on an 08 Ultra tomorrow and spoke to the sales guy about the SERT, Rinehart TD's and dyno tuning. He stated that the techs prefer to have me put 500 miles on it first before they install the SERT, pipes and dyno tune. I'm definitely wanting to install the SERT but am not sure about the TD's. I may keep the stock pipes.
What do you guys think about waiting 500 miles before doing the SERT and dyno tune?
Man, if your gonna plunk down that kind of $$$ for a SERT and dyno tune, you should at least go for an upgraded air cleaner and some good slip-ons. You will notice a huge difference. If your not gonna let her breath with a better exhaust and air cleaner, then I'd probably hold off on the SERT and dyno tune. But, if it were me, I'd go the extra bit....
heck, I just got a 103" and I already want more........
I also put my deposit down tonight and talked with the Ultra Guru. His advice was ride it and then talk. He didn't say 500 miles He said Ride it and then talk. I think I wil wait a little longer, I am now on a loaner til they find mine. It has been modified but other than a 2 into 1 I can't remember what has been done but it is fast. Very fast. Can I get that in Stealth mode. The Wing rider in me is coming out. I think it is sound advice. to ride it and talk to riders and then make the change. congratulation on the new ride.
i just got my bike back this afternoon from having td's , sert & big sucker installed, i wouldn't of had any of it done if it weren't for them rineharts, love 'em ! deffinately the biggest factor in the stage 1 pkg

Sorry, should have mentioned the AC. It was a total package: Rinehart TD's, SERT, SE AC, and a full 5 hour dyno tune with printout.

Congrats on your new bike as well! I also ordered the Crimson Sunglo two tone. My dealer actually asked a customer with the
Rineharts to start his bike so that I can listen to the sound. It was a little louder than stock but not obnoxious. I'm still debating on going with TD's or a something else.
Bwana77. Two reasons for waiting, to see how you like the set up stock first, but the most important I would think was to break in the bike. When they dyno a bike they will run it right at the red line and run it hard. With a SERT they will have to shut the bike down, adjust, wind it up again, then do it all over again. Without a break-in, in theory, you are damaging the bike. After your first 500 they will drain the oil, put in fresh, then hitting the dyno hard should not damage your bike. Some will question if a break-in is really necessary, but the MOCO does and in this case, they are the ones who will have to stand behind the warranty. Go with a full stage 1 and put in a set of grear drive cams if you have the jingle left, then hit the dyno. You won't think you are on the same bike.
I have 2400 miles on mine and last week put on Rinehart TD,SERT,Stage 1 A/C. Went to dealer to have it Dyno they loaded a map into the SERT (no charge)and that told me come back in 500 milesafterbreaking in pipes, burning off baffles. I did not argue bike is running cooler and quicker. I now wonder if I should go back for the tune?
You can have the parts installed and dynued later.Just have them put a fat map in to richen up so you do not hurt anything. We do it to all our bikes with no chance of hurting the motor.
