Just wondering what GPS units people have tried and like. Any suggestions? I am thinking about taking my Christmas money and looking for a nice unit. I have heard that 64 meg is the minimum memory you want. I am riding an 07 EG and would like something that I can attach to the bike but take in my car if I need to. Thanks.
As stated before there are many threads on the subject. But my .02 would suggest the zumo 550. If you take your time you should be able to get it even under $600. I have had the 550 for 18 months and think it is the greatest since sliced bread . Just make sure that you purchase a 2 or 4 gb SD card for all of your mp3. And you can also find out everything about the zumo at zumoforums.com
I use the Zumo 550 on my bike, have built in GPS in all of my cars, funny thing is the Zumo makes the same mistakes as my built ins.... wrong street names, I used to have a tom tom rider... what a pile of crap... twice the errors of the Zumo..overall, I really like the Zumo even though my post seems negative, it is notmeant to be....it is a great unit, I am just pointing out that all of them have an error here and there...
A friend of mine, Jon Sergeant is a true guru of GPS units. Jon specializes in installing all types of electronics on Goldwings and has his own website. He is highly respected among us Goldwing owners and he has done all my add-on electronics work.
I know that Jon has done some GPS installations on Harleyâs. Shoot him an email to jon@goldwinggadgets.com and I know he will give you his best advice. He does sell GPS units and prior to shipping them, he makes sure they have the latest firmware updates and the units work 100%. You may find a cheaper price, but I guarantee you that Jon will stand behind any product he sells.
When it comes time to install a GPS unit (Zumo550) on my 01â Road King Classic, Jon will be the guy I turn too.
