Bart (shooter64) claimed in a post that he put a bunch of these in 07's with great results as well, said it wakes them right up.

If the springs aren't strong enough, what's a set of stronger springs $50 or so? Maybe I'll just change out the springs beforehand. The website claimes that it will work in a 103 with dished pistons.

Hello all.

I contacted Zippers and spoke to them at lenght about the 575 cam and they said that the stock HD springs will work without any problem in the '07 96 c.i. Also, my local indy who is making the change in my Fatty said the stock springs will be fine and no need to worry.

My local indy really likes and recommends the 575 cam. I will not have my ride back until mid- January and I can't get the bike until the SNOW melts and roads dry off.

Keep me posted on how your bike runs out with the new red shift 575 cam

Cheers,

Mark

I'm no motor guru, but for the $100 that springs cost I think I would put them in. That would help out with the low end and quicker rev wouldn't it?

I will check with my indy again- if needed I have no problem going a 100 for that extra protection etc.

any others have any input?

I did a TW5G in my '03, a .575 lift Woods cam and definitely needed to change the springs, but again, this was a pretty aggressive cam as far as the ramps and quickness of open and closing.

HD does recommend heavier springs when changing out to anything over a .550 lift. Maybe the newer springs are a bit stonger? Either that or enough of the .575's have been run for extended periods that spring life has been proven?

Either way, good luck with your build, and let us know what the butt dyno says

The '08 SE Parts catalog has several different springs with a chart recommending different springs for different cams, page 60. Interestingly, it recommends one spring for the .569 lift cams (SE 257 and 258 which is the same spring recommended for the .550 lift 255 and the lower lift 203), but a different spring for the .579 lift cam (SE 251).Of course, there is no specific reference to the stock spring, whatever that may be; and, the SE grinds are different from the Zippers. But the info doessuggest to me that the .575 lift is at best borderline for the stockspring and, given HD's wide variance in acceptableproduction line springs(according to my '04 HD Service Manuals specs for springs which is not the bike you have soHD's specs may be tighter for '08), I'd install a spring comparable to that recommended for the SE 251.

I look at it this way, if the springs are at their limits I'm sure I will be ripping into it for a 103" or higher in the near future anyway. Zippers claims that you can use the 575's with a 103 if you use dish pistons. I will see how I like the 575's and when if I end up with a 103 may just keep them and use the dish pistons, or just swap the cams out for something different. One thing I am kicking myself in the butt for is I grabbed the cam tool with the guides and the inner bearing remover/installer tool from the shop before they shut down for the week, but I forgot to grab the cam lock tool. Guess I'll have to try and undo the crank bolt by holding my foot on the brake and jamming a rag or something in there.

I like them. I was able to finally take a couple mile ride yesterday. The cam along with the 30 tooth EVO sprocket gets me going pretty good. I had the bike dyno'd a few weeks back, but was unable to ride until now. Still contemplating on going 103 with dished pistons like Zippers suggests if you go 103

Got the back from the shop yesterday- runs really well. I'm thinking that a Zippers 103 kit would really get up and go...
I don't think I 'll be needing that for myself LOL

Cheers,
