Thanks for all the replys. I now feel like a piece of shiit. I don't think my daughter took my comment offensively. But you are right, I should have thought longer before the response. I am 52 and have been working on that for the last 22 years. Apparently more work is needed. T.
We all make mistakes.I've made a million, and will make a million more. What definesus is howwe deal with our mistakes. Seems like you're on the right track, and as others said, you took your "beating" here like a man. Make sure she understands that you appreciate the gift though. She did a nice thing for you, don't let it get lost in a misunderstanding.Just my $.02.

Ultrasweet, when I read you original post, I wasn't sure how to take it. But now, I feel like you were just making the same joke (HD means Hundred Dollars) that all of us have made from time to time. Explain the joke to your loving daughter and make sure she knows it was not a slight directed toward her gift. After, 30+ years of marriage, I have found that the female mind doesn't see things with the same understanding that the male mind does. I am still trying to figure it out - heaven help me.
I really am taking a beating on this one. What was intended was the joke referred to above however people are always misinterpreting me because my dry humor makes me sound serious. I still don't think my daughter took offense to my remark but it is apparent to most of my brotherin that it did. Based on the opinions of most here I will definately have a talk with her and appologise. Thanks for all the input. Now let the woopings cease! T.

I always tell my family forget the Harley dealerships, I actually need a pair of good deerskin riding gloves, I always buy those by an American company who makes them here, at a saddle and tack shop not too far from my home. I found a pair of American-made double palmed, Roper gloves that I just love, and I don't have to pay $60 or $100 for them either. All too often you're much better off buying leather as a gift for biker, and always better off buying it from somebody other than Harley-Davidson!!

It truly is the thought that counts. My son went to the bother of putting together a "Bike Maintenance Basket" for me. Quick detailer, wax, wash soap, wheel cleaner, leather/vinyl/rubber dressing and spray bottles. All items were from Griots, top of the line items. What more could I ask for.

Your daughter did real good, be proud of her for the effort, and the sacrifice, that $30 could have been grocery money for her.

You don’t know how lucky you are. I would settle for a big hug. My son was killed in a motorcycle accident this summer and my hart is broken.
Huck, I'm so sorry to hear about your son. I'm with you-have lost one, too. When I read your post my heart got that same 'ol stab I've gotten use to over the years. I'll admit the first (selfish) thought that hit me was "God, I'm glad I'm out of that first year". Although it never goes away (and you don't want it to), the intensity and frequency gets less. I promise. And the hugs are still there. . .they just show up in the most amazing ways.

I'm with most of them on here.... you should have stopped talking after "thank you".
I just had a feeling of deju-vue ................. we've all been there (especially as parents). I don't mean to twist the knife but giving ($$) is all relative ......... not much to someone making 80 grand or more a year ........... but someone living hand-to-mouth? I have the feeling that you're like mostof us ........... always opening your mouth to change feet (ha ha) ........ relax dad, as parents we usually lie like rugs about a lot of things.
