Ultrasweet: You have a loving daughter, but you are kidding yourself IMHO if you believe you didn't hurt her feelings by your remark. She was being that same loving daughter when she didn't tell you that you had hurt her feelings and allowed your remark to be excused by your "sorry" sense of humor. I've done the same sort of thing as you did, until I learned that it was more important for me to give the gift of gratitude/appreciation to the giver of the present--any response other than gratitude was, for me at least, the wrong response. I agree and I couldn't have said it better myself, and you hit the nail right on the head.

I may have read that wrong but if i didn't your an A$$
I'm confused so maybe you should explain it to me,what was there to read wrong, I just agreed with him so why the name calling.
i have always thought its the thought that counts... this year i had fun buying gifts, bro got the willie g skull floor board set and highway pegs, his wife got an hd blanket and a mirror for the bar, there son got a 50cc quad ( 3.5 yrs old and rippin it up!), mom got an afx nodular helmet and dad got fairing pouches, grips, and mid frame deflectors... its just a great feeling to give to the ones that mean so much....and i got me some gift cards to pay for all the motor work im currently doing...picked up my inner primary today... woo hooo.
My daughter gave me a gift card for Christmas. She struggles to make ends meet and was only able to afford one for $30. When I jokingly told her what HD stood for she was upset and said they shouldn't sell any gift cards less than $100 if that is the case. But it's all good. I can put it together with the ones I got from others and I will be fine. T.
My daughters both both got me something harley. They spent their own money, that they have earned. One got me a HD ornament, and the other that HD snow globe. They both were less than $10 bucks, but that isn't the point. They know how much I love my bike, and got me a present to reflect that. Both of them said, "Look Papa, it is a Road King, just like yours." Funny thing is, I got the wife the same ones for stocking stuffers, LOL. Last year my oldest made a mouse pad, with a picture of my bike on it, and the youngest got me a neck pillow for when I am on the computer. Since I get online every day, I have used those gifts all year long. Both my girls are not selfish when it comes to me and their mom. The oldest even used money that she got as a birthday gift, that she was supposeto buy herself something with,to order her momsome collectables that she has. Sweet, I tell ya. They both made me gifts, as well. Nothing better than that.
I agree that you may have left some of your statement out, but it is done now. Whether her feelings were hurt, or not, saying sorry isn't going to help much. Buy that girls a shirt with that card. As you said, it's only $30, so you can't get what you really want, so you should buy her something with it... and choose your words more carefully... IMO.
You know, we have all recieved unusual gifts from our children, in their minds hey have really done a grea job, it is our job to make them feel as they did, my daughter used to buy and make some strange stuff, I still have all of it, she says to me today, "why don't you throw that junk out, I say it is that it was a specialgift from you, that is what makes it speca and to show to our children if you ever make fun of them for what they get or make you, she knows better than to give them a hard time, I never did with her until this year.. hahahaha she can handle it now, it was ony over Harley stuff....

Sounds like you made your daughter feel awful on Christmas, but at least you'll be fine. Nice work.
