PCIII and throttle position %, how do I know?
Thanks
you will likely be at or about 15% TPS. most of the riding that everybody does is less then 20% TPS, you only get into the higher ones when you are hard accelerating. What i did was hook up to the puter, put a peice of masking tape on the grip, in nuetral looked at the TPS and then marked the grip with a pen for every 10%, then go for a ride and see for yourself.
Thanks
So I tweaked my PCIII map but my question is how do I know what throttle position % I am at while I am riding? Cruising at 80 I am at 2700 RPMs, or so, so can I assume that I am at roughly 40% according to the speed I am going and RPM of the engine? How can I get to the bottom of this mystery in my mind?
check-speeds (e.g., 55 mph), mark that point on the throttle grip across from the reference point. Don't use the cruise control for these checks!
When you get home, connect the computer and check those positions using the PC software. You can do it by turning on the ignition without starting the engine and attaching the 9V battery adapter, or just start the engine.
Recently, I double-checked these rough calculations with a PC LCD display I borrowed from a friend, which connects to the PCIII and among other things will display the TP on the fly. This verified my earlier findings, which revealed about 7-8% at a constant 50-60mph in 5th gear, up to about 15% at 80mph in 6th. Thus, my earlier gas-mileage tweaks largely between 5-20% were correct. Knowing this has helped me tweak my PCIII map for better mileage. For those with TC88 engines, TP may be higher at cruising speeds, so you should do your own checks. For Swipter, you should be able to use my calculations since you have an identical year and model.
A better method would be to do the test with a passenger holding a laptop computer, if that's possible.
Tape with hash marks and later reference.
Worked very well for me.

I did the same as iClick...

Thanks iclick, I think the tweaks I have been making, although helpful for about 1.5 mpg are just a tad high for TP%. I was thinking I was higher in the percentage. I will go back and retweak as soon as I replace my power supply for the computer. Thanks for the help, all.
Which baffles do you have and what does your map look like? Attached is my before (3a) and after (3b). Keep in mind that 3a is an advanced map, tuned for each cylinder individually, so the other cylinder will look a bit different. I changed 3b to the same values for both cylinders, however. I also may change the "10" and "9" values at 20% to "5" and see how it goes. I don't think it needs to be that much richer than 10% at that point, but at 20%/3k you could justify more fuel, as at a cruise this would be about 80 mph in 6th gear.
BTW, keep in mind that the PCIII interpolates between settings. IOW, if you have "0" for 10% TP and "10" for 20%, it will run "5" at 15%, etc.
