I have a 2006 FLHTCUIthat i frequently pull a trailer with on long tripshave a 95 kit on hand ready to install after factory warranty expires looking at the Baker DD6 6 speed tranny upgrade. Just wondering has anyone done this and pull a trailer how does the 6 Speed work pulling the trailer
I pull a trailer with my Road Glide. I just put in some wiseco 95 inch flat tops along with head work, cams etc. It is nice to have torque!! I don't even know the trailers back there most of the time. The 6 speed is on my list also and once you do the 95 conversion you should have enough torque where 6th gear will not be any problem. If your changing cams too I would suggest the Andrews TW21G cams and then get the Gear drives from S&S if your going to put on a lot of miles. My wear pads on my stock cams were half way gone at 32,000 miles. The TW21 cams close the intakes at 30 degrees ABDC which means you get torque at 1800 rpm. There is no need to downshift on the highway. Most people overcam their bikes because they look at peak numbers instead of where the power is going to be. I can pull from 1500 rpm to 120 mph in 5th gear in one smooth progressive thrust! Get the 6 speed, do the 95 inches, hook up the trailer and don't look back!
Thanx tootal i pulled my trailer to the Wall last year i only had a few times in the mountains that i wish i had a little more power i currently have stage 1 and true duals i will look into those cams i am not looking for a red light runner just would like to noi can pass if i need to i picked up a 95 kit last month at my local dealer for $380 sonow i am waiting on some more cash i pickup the 6 speed from eastern performance
You can always downshift into fifth if need be. Sixth on the flat pulling a trailer shouldn't be a big deal, you're just maintaining the speed. Go for it.

THANX for your time
I was only going to do the 95 conversion but my parts guy is also a professionalengine builder and he talked me into all the other things and he was right, it is a great motor but it's not necessary. Just a 95 inch kit with with the same cams will still be a big improvement. It always comes down to how fast do you want to go, how much money do you have...
I pulled a trailer 2300 miles last year, with my '06, 95" 5spd, I did have to downshift to 4th quite a bit in the hills, and down to 3rd sometimes in the mtns. and at times with a headwind it worked the motor purdy hard to keep 70 mph in 5th.
I had a 6spd in my '00 RKC, but never pulled with it. I was thinking about putting a 6spd in my '06 but from my experience this past summer pulling the trailer, I will not be going to a 6 in it.
from what I understand, the Baker has different gearing and that may make it a lot better than the rev-tech .87 OD gear set that I had.
I would say it calls for some research into primary and tranny gear ratios as to whether a 6 speed would be beneficial or not.
