Kansasroadking, I would be curious as to what cams you are running. If you overcam an engine there will not be any torque where you need it and you'll have to downshift to find the torque range of your cam.

Rhubarb, On the DD6 you are half way right. 6th is a direct drive however in that kit you change your primary ratio, that drives the clutch, therefore making your overall gearing taller. The gears in the tranny are all lower except for 6th which is straight through just like your old 5 speed. The Direct Drive is more efficient than an overdrive, I highly recommend this over an OD unit.

Tootal,

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of the gearing change.

HEYENG, I had my '03 FATBOY stock 88ci upgraded to a 95ci with SE cnc ported heads, SE hp ignition, S&S gear drive cams, HTTC pistons, V&H 2into1, etc, 102hp/99trq then I had the HD 6 spd gear set made by JIMS for HD installed in my 5 spd case. Was a great combination, outstanding power, tons of torque. Before I ever got to pull my loaded trailer with this bike, I bought a new '07 UltraClassic. Took a 2K mile trip two up to Colorado pulling my heavily loaded trailer (all of me and wifes stuff, plus I hauled a ton of stuff for the other couple). My new 96cu '07 UltraClassic did OK with the trailer, mostly 5th gear running. Lots of uphill/downhill riding. On the open road above 65mph it did OK and could barely handle 6th gear pulling the trailer. My '03 with the 95 built engine and SE 6 spd would have done much better. Way more power and torque, would have handled 6th gear at lower speeds with plenty of power over the new bike with the stock 96ci in it. Since that time I have put the ISD sprocket on the '07 and done exhaust improvements, etc. It will do much better now and can handle 6th gear running pulling a trailer much better. End result is that the '03 95ci built engine and Jims built SE 6 spd in my opinionwas a much betterengine/trans combo than what I currently have with the stock '07 96ci engine. Wish I had it in myUltra !! PACO

I have an 07 Ultra and have a trailer that the empty weight is 135 lbs. and I pulled it ona 600 mile round trip excursion. with my 150 lb. wife on back. The only time I had an issue was when I was going up any slight grade I would have to downshift to 5th gear. We probably had about 50 lbs. of luggage and other stuff in the trailer. I pulled it back home loaded but without the wife and I never knew it was back there.....Bldr
