I have a 2003 Road King Police. This is my escort bike, I do alot Super Load Escorts. My question, I need a GOOD Battery, No wait, I need the best battery that money can by. I have alot electrical add-ons and possibly need to put more. I have a added on stereo and need to add on a CB Radio on top of that, I have the Police lights on it. I need a battery that WILL HOLD up to these add-ons. Any recommendations ?
The local cops use a second battery to drive the pursuit lights. If you have the radio box, you can install a smaller battery with a quick disconnect, and wire it to the flashing lights. Leave it hooked up to a charger overnight. That way you don't have to worry about leaving the motor running to keep the charge up. If you aren't running LED pursuit lights, then I would think the best option would be to hook a battery tender up each night after work. That should keep the battery at its peak. I think the stock Harley gel batteries are great. Got five years out of the original one and its an Ultra. Lots of lights.
Yeah, I have to agree with goodbirds, I've tried all the latest and greatest batteries and the HD ones definently work the best, all the cop bikes we set up have the extra battery in the accessory box, that is a must if you're running all the extra lights.
I've tried all the fancy, expensive high output bla bla bla batteries out there and have not found anything that works better for me than the Harley one.
+1 on the odyssey dry cell. Batterymart.com usually has the best price. Is the alternator a single phase or three phase? A three phase should keep up at idle as it puts out the same as the single phase does at 2000 rpm. I know the new models are running three phase but I'm not sure about the 03 models. If you have a single phase then Compufire makes a great three phase set up if you would rather not use a second battery.
A temp fix could be a small hand held "jumper battery" one of those things with a battery and a pair of jumper cableleads.
and carry in the bags.
or those junk things sold on tv that plug into the cig lighter to jump start your car.
