I have a 2003 Road King Police. This is my escort bike, I do alot Super Load Escorts. My question, I need a GOOD Battery, No wait, I need the best battery that money can by. I have alot electrical add-ons and possibly need to put more. I have a added on stereo and need to add on a CB Radio on top of that, I have the Police lights on it. I need a battery that WILL HOLD up to these add-ons. Any recommendations ?
I would vote for either the HD or Odyssey battery, whichever is cheaper. I've used both and can attest that they are excellent. I have a very small Odyssey here that I bought for my old RK, removed it when I sold the bike, and it is still holding a charge well 5½ years after purchase. Trying to figure out what to do with it, as I have a new bike and a new lawn tractor, both obviously with new batteries.
I've had good luck with Interstate batteries on my Wing. I replace them every 3 years as a precaution. Don't like getting stuck. Batteries will fail without any advance warning.
How do you guy's get that long out of a Harley battery? My 05 battery crapped out after 13 months. ( just after the warranty expired ) Ride every day so it was always charged.
Replaced it with an Interstate. Worked great for over two years and still going strong when I traded it in.
Sometimes I have to leave the lights on to direct traffic around the load when its stuck at alight or a railroad crossing and I need something that aint gonna run down real quick. BTW, sometimes ny bike cranks like the battery is low when its hot, The battery is only about 1 year old, I guess it could be going anyway. I think I am goinf to look into that ODYSSEY. Thanx.
I also stocked Deka AGM (absorbed glass mat)at the motorcycle/scooter stores. Never had a problem with 'em, that's why the chopper companies and the military went to them and eventually HD itself. Deka is made by East Penn manufacturing which make most of the brand-name batteries you're familiar with. (Interstate, for example)

harley batteries are made by Deka and the Dekas sell for about 20% less. my home owned auto parts store down the street stocks the AGMs.

I still have my stock batter in my '05 Ultra Classic, no problems yet. 2 of my buddies also bought their bikes in '05 and they too still have the stock battery.
All batteries are made by the same two or three makers. Yuasa and Johnson Controls are the top 2. I believe Yuasa is HD's suppliers, but I didn't get a good look at my battery yet. Yuasa is a top of the line battery
