I am riding a 2012 FLHTCU. I put the Kuryakin Phase 7 LED lights on Saturday. Rode it a little on Sunday with no problems. Took it to work (about 20 miles) with no problems. Came out to go home and noticed battery light was on. Made it home no problem. Went to crank it up to go to store and battery was dead. Installing the lights was a simple plug & play. Is there some load balancer that needs to be used as well. I didn't expect lights to drain battery. Any suggestions?
They draw less power than stock lights. Might be a coincidence that you may need a battery. 4-5 yr old battery ? Load test battery and check charging system
Yep, load should be LESS with LEDs.
Could be battery.
Could be a ground somewhere.
You could connect a digital meter to the battery, and check for voltage drop. If there is, pull and replace one fuse at a time until you find the culprit. (Start with the maxi fuse and work your way down).
Battery sounds suspect to me, IMHO, but I would trouble shoot.
Check your regulator as well. Known issues with those in '12. I just replaced mine with one from a company in Ohio, Cycle Electric, I think was the name. Cheaper and better construction than OEM.
I was getting the battery warning light as well.
I have Truck lights as well. The lights are most likely not the issue.
