Is this a user changeable item? I have to push mine at least 30-40 times to reset. Gets old quick. Anyone ever changed one and where do you get it, dealership? YTIA
I had mine changed twice on my 08 EGC once by the dealer under warranty, the second one by a dealer on the road not under warranty cost about $50 with labor, someone said pull the fairing back a a little bit????
Id pull off the outer fairing. Its a cheap part under $10 I was going to do it myself but you had to cut splice and solder the wires on my year anyways so unless youre comfotable with electrical Is let the dealer do it.
My two cents thanks BV
Its a good point but yes, I've held in for up to a minute at times. Sometimes it will reset within a few seconds other times it takes minutes. So if I am to understand correctly it is in the actual button, not the speedometer unit???
OK...yes then it's the button acting up on yours. Pain to swap because of wiring, but agree w/daharleyrdr to let HD replace (less headache). Good luck!
You can always try unscrewing the weather proof cover on the button and spray some electrical contact cleaner or some WD 40. Usually theres carbon build up in the switch. I bet this fixes it for you.
Just don't have the power on while you spray. But do push the button repeatedly while spraying the electrical contact cleaner in it. CRC make a good one, and it's as cheap as the little bitty cans you can get at Radio Shack. also, do not try to use the button until a couple of hours after. You want the button assembly to be dry again before you use it, as it might could short it out.
Mine fell into the fairing while on a ride leaving a nice hole in the dash for the rest of the ride. Check tightness every now and then. Another thing, the nut on the fuel door lock would always loosen up. Recently after seven years, I wised up and used loctite and put a stop to that. Put a wrench on it instead of finger tight at the station.
