Well that sounded like a great idea so I headed out armed with my can of CRC but can't get the rubber comdom off...Whats the trick to getting access to the switch to spray? Does the fairing need to come apart??

Don't know if it will work - but the condom comment made me laugh.

The condom has a nut in it. Just unscrew it and hold with some needle nose plyrers and spray.
The last on I got for the RG had wire crimps with it and srink tube on the crimps.

Just did that tonight.

When you unscrew that rubber covered nut, whats left will fall in the fairing when you push it and then you'll be taking the fairing off to fish it out and at that point you might as well replace it.

Do not use WD40 on electronics it is ummmm flammable. It also leaves a residue on the parts that will attract dust and other crapola that will eventually cause problems in the future. I know this from experience in my old 4 wheeling days. WD40 + electricity = flame on

Use a contact cleaner if your going to use anything of that nature.
Good luck.

Uh Wd 40 is made from vegetable oil, the propellant may be flammable but not the lube. He said he was going to use electrical contact cleaner.....Did you get it to work?

Then you may need to take the handlebar covers off then spray it from the underside. If that didnt work you have it already apart to change the switch. Not sure on a flhx, but on a r/g its 3 screws and F with the ignition switch plate. pita anyway you look at it.
