Default HELP - REMOVING STRIPPED TORX BOLT

Does anyone have any suggestions for how best to remove a stripped torx bolt. All suggestions are very much appreciated.

Regards,

It's probably in the derby cover so drill the head off with a drill that is a size or so larger than the shank of the bolt itself. Once the cover is off, they usually unscrew by hand out the front being the strain is off the bolt.

This is the easiest and safest way to do it so you don't do any damage to the cover.

Next time use a #27 bit, not a #25

If you have room to get at it with a punch and a hammer you can start with a straight down blow off to the side of the head. Get a divot going then turn the punch and hammer to try and drive it counter clockwise to get it loose. Make any sence?

I got one out by carefully hammering the next larger size torx socket into it.

The local dealer says derby coverscrews are his #1 seller. For that exact reason.

Never did like Torx bit style bolts. They seem to put them everywhere now.

My three favorites in order of preference:

1. Impact driver...hand tool...but I hate pounding on it.
2. Cut a slot at the 9:00 o'clock position on the torx head, using a chisel, sharpened screw driver, or dremmel tool. Then use a punch and hit it radially counter clockwise, like suggested by bowhnter7, above.
3. Drill it out, as suggested by glide above. I usually drill as a last resort.

Most of the time you can use a pneumatic or electric scribe. Just put it on the head and let it vibrate out by using the un screwing motion. Most of the time it comes right out, but be careful not to let it slip off and scribe something else.

Stripped a couple on the derby, take a dremel and cut a slot in it and then use large flat heasd screw driver or manual impact and get it out.
