Getting ready to fit progressive fork springs to my 2007 flht. I have to take the ignition out to get to the top fork bolts .
Anyone done this without the HD tool for removing the ignition
Thanks
Follow the book.... REMEMBER.... ONCE THE SWITCH IS REMOVED - DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE THE TUMBLERSINSIDE THE SWITCH HOUSING.... Because if ya move them - that's when you'll wish you had the tool...
But you can get around that also with a little free time and a screwdrive...
Getting ready to fit progressive fork springs to my 2007 flht. I have to take the ignition out to get to the top fork bolts .
Anyone done this without the HD tool for removing the ignition
Thanks
1. Turn the ignition KEY to unlock and leave the key inserted in lock assembly
2. Move ignition assembly to the "Off" position to unlock the forks. LEAVE THE KEY IN LOCK
3. Turn the Handlebars all the way to the right
4. With the ignition key still in the lock turn the LOCK ASSEMBLY to "Access"
5. Standing on the left side of the bike look at the lower left underside of the LOCK ASSEMBLY. You will see a small button in the rear left corner
6. Use a small screwdriver to depress the button and hold while pushing down on the KEY and turning it 60 degrees in the clockwise direction
7. Lift and remove ****
8. Reverse to reinstall except there is no need to depress the button
Maybe I read the manual wrong. I thought the whole ignition has to come out to get the cover of. If i only have to take the chrome switch off .I wont need the HD special tool for removing the whole unit
Thanks for everyones help
The whole ignition has to come out to get the consoleoff .They will only sell P/Number HD 45962 to qualified Harley technician in Australia. (Great)When you take the chrome key post out its locked with the steering lock on so I cant remove the console as turned full lock to the left.Any more hintsabout this steering lock
put the switch **** back in, do it all over again and don't turn the forks all the way to the left. The above instructions say to turn the bars to the right, I have done it many times by turning to the left just not so far as the lock them. Once the **** is removed you will be able to turn the bars again.
