Default 2008 (not earlier) tourers - adding cruise control

So, to return to a previous question, how many people have added cruise to their 2008 tourers? The '08s have a whole new throttle-by-wire system, so any information on earlier models, appreciated as it is, isn't applicable. The question in particular is: did you have to head back to the dealer to get them to do anything with your ECM?

Turns out the installation is ridiculously easy; about an hour (the pin numbers are right on the plug & socket housings!) and couldn't really be easier. Turns out the cruise control system is just the switches; everything's handled inside the ECM and since the throttle-by-wire system already uses a servo on the throttle, it's a very quick and simple install. I'm wondering, though, if the ECM needs to be re-flashed or have some options programmed in because while the bike is fine and everything appears to be working right, the cruise control doesn't work

So, anyone add it to their 2008 Street Glide? Thanks.

You will have to take it to the dealer. It's almost plug and play but the ECM does not look for it. The option will have to be turned on so to speak.

Interesting question for which I don't have the answer, though it is surprising (to me anyway) that a dealer flash is necessary since the P&A catalog is silent about this. Since you are asking the question is it correct to assume the instructions with the kit don't mention a dealer flash/installation?

Can you turn the cruise on with the switch on the fairing cap?

It is not uncommon for an installation of the earlier cruise handlebar harness to have a wire pinched/shorted when reassembling the switch housings; perhaps that's the problem.

Hope you get it working and let us know if it does require a dealer flash.

grrr. Thanks. An hour or so of poking around the 'Net this alluded to that. Yours is *honestly* the first post I've found that says the words.

They have a 110" SE Dyna there as a rental. Maybe I'll swap out for a day or two and leave the 'Glide with 'em

Thanks.

The instructions say "it may be necessary to refer to the 'DIGITAL TECHNICIAN' or the Touring Models Electrical Diagnostic Manual to verify the cruise control function on the vehicle ECM". As Duracell points out, and as many allusions seem to loosely suggest, this may be tech-manual double speak for "turn the option on". Since the Street Glides don't normally come with CC I think I can understand their not having it turned on by default, but it should be be a switch combo thing like en/dis-abling the security or something.

Ah well, we all have to earn a living, I guess.

Thanks all.

The good news is it only takes 'em a sec to do it. Shouldn't have to leave the bike if you schedule it with the service department.

houdy;
your ecm has the provissions or the knowledge to run your cruise the only thing is the stealer need to let the ecm know to look for the cruise during initialization.another words when the electronic technician is hook up a command will be added to the ecm telling it
'hey stupit look for the cruise control during running time" by the way all touring models are cruise ready providing you buy the kit.
