Default 08 FLHRC exhaust ideas.......

Ok, I am kinda worried about this whole PCIII/ABS fitment problem going on. So I am maybe looking at going with V & H dresser duals and a SERT and just biting the bullet and forking over the dough for the dyno. I like the idea of being able to use my stock mufflers for a while until I can convince the wife to spend more $$$ on this bike I just bought (that I don't even have yet). So what are your thoughts? Are any other of the duals, stock muffler friendly? Will I be disapointed with the sound and doing a dyno now and then have to do another later with different mufflers? Or will I ? All help/opinions appreciated.

I don't think the stock mufflers on the 08 RKC sound bad at all. They could be a little louder, but they sound decent.(to my 60 YO ears)IMHO. This might be a good plan since it will give you time to zero in on which slip ons you really like, then you can redial in the SERT.

I ran bone stock up until the 1K service, and then added the Stage 1 stuff. I did get a difference in sound and performance, but if somebody had told me I had to leave the bike completely stock, I would have been just fine. Just ride the thing for a while and don't worry about it...it'll give you more time to consider your options and convince the wife.

In my opinion, your first money is better spent on comfort and fit upgrades, like seat and handlebars. Both of those will directly affect your enjoyment of the bike, and possibly your wife's as well.

I agree. The 08's apparently have a little different plumbing, because my '08 Road Glide sounds significnatly different (better) than my '07 Road King Classic did. So much so that when I went with the 103" kit, I kept the stock pipes. In addition, the ECM programming is MUCH better, providing a very smooth throttle and excellent power characteristics. Harley really did some good work on the 08's. Others will tell you, accurately, that the engine runs lean and there is more power waiting to be unleashed with the Stage 1 build, and that's certainly true, but I am very impressed with the08 engine. I ended up with the 103" kitas a fluke of nature (the engine on my brand new Road Glide had to be completely rebuilt as a result of problems with the cases, so my dealer offeredfree labor on the kit), but the week that I spent on my stock engine left me very impressed! I would ride the bike at least for the first 1k miles and make a determination then - could save you some money.

I agree with all above besides you want to put on at least 1k before
any dyno time.

I finally got my 105 th. Road King, and they did stage 1 before I took it home. I have SuperTrapp SE with SE a/c,and the SERT. I really like the SuperTrapp SE.

Ok RJMAC53,
I notice how you tout the TMAX Autotune all over this forum. How user friendly is this thing and can a green-horn master it well enough to feel comfortable tuning his own scoot?
And for everyone, I didn't plan on doing anything to my bike until after the 1,000K service. And they threw in $1000 in a gift cert. so I'm planning on getting backrests for us both, luggage rack and am looking for a good way to spend the other $450 bucks. So much chrome, so little money. I know I'm probably going to want to change something, maybe the bars, but not sure what's available for this new fly-by-wire throttle set up. I loved my bars on my 06 Deluxe and I hated the bars on my brothers 06 RK Custom.
Thanks guys!

JohnnyD, (for what it is worth) I am waiting on the Terry Components Terminal Velocity II. It is auto tune and cheaper than the Tmax with autotune. I'm not sure the TMax is out yet for the Throttle by wire either. PCIII is. Terminal Velocity is what a mechanic i use recommends.
