Default Gauges - Road Glide

Bike is going to the painter to get the inner fairing done and I've got a set of Polk Tweeters on the way. Seems the best place to mount them is right where the gauges are. Since the ambient air gauge is basically useless, I am thinking "move the fuel gauge down in place of the ambient air temp gauge and loose the voltmeter gauge entirely. This will leave me with the fuel guage and oil pressure gauges.

Anyone know if moving that fuel gauge down will work and if there's enough line there to do it etc? Inner fairing on the RG is pretty full and really no other good areas to install the tweets.

JMO, But I wouldn't do away with the AMP meter, that is the quickest way of knowing you may have a charging problem and without it may end up stranded someplace you might not want to be.

Have you looked at the J&M speakers with the built in tweeters?? I just put those on my RG when having it painted and the sound awesome. I had the bike out on the highway running 75mph and only had the volume up less that half way and they sounded great.

That way you could keep all your gauges and still have the tweeters. If you do anything get rid of the Air Temp and replace it with the Oil Temp which makes a lot more since to have. I can tell if it is hot outside or not. LOL!!!

Keep the gauges.....you cant hear the music if the charging system takes a crap.....and who wants to listen to music when your stuck on the side of the road anyway???

**** can the ambient temp gauge and replace it with a much more practical "oil temp" gauge!

Thanks

You can also look at the Hog Wired speakers. They are true component, but the tweets are bridged accross the sub. It gives you a true component sub/tweet speaker that does not take up any extra sapce. If you decide to separate them later, they can be easily separated. I recieved a pair for x-mas, and yes they are pricey, but they sound excellent. I am very happy with them.

It sounds like a good idea to me. How often do people really have problems with their charging system. It would be a very cool custom look imho

Those were my initial thoughts. I don't give a rats **** about the ambient air temp gauge, it's useless to me. The oil temp gauge pressure gauge is a must. In all the years I've been riding, I've yet to have an issue with the charging system. Maybe just luck lol... I am going to give it a hard look though.

If you do go this route, you can still get the oil temp dipstick, and move your oilpressure guage to your rocker box. Then move your Voltmeter up to the Oil pressure hole and ditch your ambient air temp guage. Then you are not loosing any real info and actualy gaining the temp dipstick and two spots for your tweets. (I'm picturing this in my head and I think it's thecorrect placements.)

Sorry...meant to say Voltmeter.

Also, while you are moving your Oil guage around, it might give you a good opporotunity to add an Oil cooler for hot weather and future mods. You know how it is with HD's...one thing always leads to another.

G'luck and please post pics when you finish. I am real interrested to see how it all turns out.
