i came across a used 2002 ultra at the local dealer, red, 45,000 miles, stage one done, some chrome...was bought, maintained, and traded in at same dealer...so i should be able to get service history, etc...$13,995...previous owner was tall, so seat and windshield would not work for me...the bike has been at dealer for a month or so, so maybe they r ready to deal??
what is everyone's opinion on the mileage?? i think 20-21k would be reasonable for an 02, this is double that...
also is there anything i s/b concerned about?? i have read some other posts about higher mileage bikes and people recommending having bearings checked or replaced?? not sure if i am remebering correctly...
You'd think that anyone that put 15K a year on a bike probably took care of it.... He didn't want to get stranded 2000 miles from home. Price sounds good even with that mileage, but I sure would dicker (maybe for a dealer warranty, if not cash).
Low mileage bikes scare me almost more than high mileage bikes. Being in the car biz a low mileage car sometimes means it was in an accident and sat in a bodyshop for an extended time period, thus the low mileage. I guess I am using the same thought process with bikes. Besides if it is high mileage it must be dependable or else the previous owner would never ride very far! Just my opnion.
I agree with most here, If it was serviced correctly go for it. But I wouldn't ever give asking price for anything used. Offer them atleast $2000.00 less then the want. They probably didn't give $10.000.00 for it.
thanks all for the feedback...the dealer has been tough on negotiating with used bikes, but i will lowball them...any ideas what to ask for if they dont move on price?? parts /service etc
just got off the phone with service...former owner is a repeat customer, has bought many bikes there...traded for an 06 ultra
all services done
20k -replaced stator
24k -fixed speedo issue
34k- new battery/volt reg
44k- fixed primary squeal/noise --- any idea what this could be? and right before he traded??
it has the upgraded cam bearing design... so replacement not an issue...i think that is what was remembering...
