On a 2008 EGC, I am wondering if a stage 1 and an emc flash is worth the money.Should I just leave the bike stock for a few thousand miles, or should I do this before I take delivery. Or are there some other things I could do. Any comments would be a great help.
It's really just a personal decision. Basically, if you want more noise from the exhaust, then I'd go ahead and get it done now versus later when the shops are busy.
I would roll on it as is at least till 1k. That will give you enough time to make up your mind on which direction you want to go and break it in right. You may just be like the few who like it as is.
If you are happy with the sound of the stock exhaust and the way it runs keep it stock, but if you want something louder, better throttle response, more power, and a bit cooler running engine then definitely go with the stage-1. I would (and did) wait until the 1k service to do the install.
STAGE 1 is worth the performance gain and helps in the heat reduction... Having the Dealer do the FLASH\DOWNLOAD the Stage 1 is waste of you hard earned $$$$ - You would be better off going with a Fuel Management System..
The Dealer is required to adjust the ECM with in EPA guidelines and that will still leave you running LEAN\HOT

+1
Read this forum, get some ideas, take the $ you would have spent buy what you want and do it yourself (A/C, exhaust, FMS (like a PC3 or something))
The stage one setup is definitely worth the performance end. But you really need to decide on the pipes and air cleaner you want before you do the download. i would make them do the heat download while they have the bike if there is one for the 08s. take your time on the rest and research what you're buying. HD stuff adds up quickly and it ain't cheap.
Ihave a 08Road King, and they did stage 1 before I took it home. They installedSuperTrapp SE with SE a/c,and the SERT. No dyno time and it's running great
