I am looking for a set of pipes to put on my 07 Ultra. I was wondering if slip on pipes will address the heat situation, or do I need to get true duals. I am hoping to keep the set up under $500. Ideas??
The bike will run hot with any pipes unless you have done a stage 1 kit. Try the serch engine on this site everthing you may need to know is there or try this site http://www.nightrider.com/
I hope this helps
Just installing diff slip ons will not get rid of the heat issue.Because the bike is running so lean from the factory you need to do a couple of things. You need to richen up air / fuel mixture by adding some type of fuel mangt ie ( PCIII, fuel pack,Thundermax etc). That will take care of alot of the problem by itself.Than you will want to do a stage 1 air cleaner (screamin eagle or K&N ).Even synthetic oil will help.Lastly duals will get rid of the cross over pipe and will also cool it down with the duals themselves.
Doing a STAGE 1 will help reduce the HEAT ISSUE while giving you MORE PERFORMANCE... To futher reduce the HEAT ISSUE would be to install TRUE DUALS (but you'll loose a little lower end torque).. Going even more.... Change you oil and go to a GOOD SYN OIL like AMSOIL or MOBIL 1... You can always add RJ's Orignals Heat Shields (Vendor here) and they will reduce the heat to you & your passangers legs...
OK, I already did the Arlen Ness Adjustable Fuel injection thing on th estage I download. It has cooled it quite a bit, but to further cool it I need an intake kit and some pipes.
My question is:
Do I need to get true duals or will slip on pipes be OK? If slip ons are OK, is there some that are recommended over others?
The dual headers willhelp your right leg but will lose some bottom end torque Check out fullsac. com they have a very cheap dual set up useing 1/2 of your headers and recoring your mufflers or just try flee bay for bargins
Pappy is right...low restriction A/C and slip-ons with a fuel management system will help out immensly. I am still debating with myself whether or not to do the true duals or not because I don't know if I want to lose that low-end torque. Maybe it's not THAT much torque to be concerned with..???

Something does not sound right here. You said you already added the Arlen Ness fuel injection "Thing" and you have the stage 1 download but you have not changed the air cleaner or the pipes? If this is true and you go change the air cleaner and add slip-on pipes you should have to change the fuel programming to match the parts you add. The cheapest way to cool a stock 07 or 08 down is to change the fuel management system. Most add the air cleaner and slip-on's at the same time to improve the sound and performance. Something like the VH fuelpak or PCIII is the cheapest fuel management system that works very well.
